source for ignition power

I can't seem to locate an easy source for switched power (ignition power). I am getting ready to install my pyrometer, and all the easy obvious power sources seem to be hot all the time. As I over looking something here, or do I have to splice into a wire. If I do, which one should I look for? [duhhh]

Easiest for me was to pull the knee bolster under the column and tap into the back of the fuse panel. I think I piggy backed my stereo fuse for power to the pyro. From there you can also tap in for lights easier than pulling the wires for the switch.

I used a test light and made sure I was on the fused side that being it went dead when I pulled the fuse out. Makes for an easy clean install without all the hassle.

I run a relay triggered by the "acc" wire in the back of the stereo.

I believe its pin 17 in the fuse box in the dash that is run-start power, which wouldn't be bad to have your gauges hooked to. Or set it to the acc-run signal, then you can watch your pyro after you shut the truck off.

just simpily place the wire in the fuse holder w/o the fuse for the ignition and place the fuse in side the fuse holder with the wire BUT your wire has to be stranded not solid.

Not my preference.. I used the blue scotch loks on the wire behind the fuse panel instead.
