Question Someone Please Tell Me!!! (exhaust)

I am looking to get 5 inch exhaust put on my 12 valve, No one sells an exhaust system without the muffler though. When I asked if they did the guy said that if I did a system without the muffler than the turbo wouldnt stay wound up when I let off the gas causing me to have a poor response. Now I have been also told that it is the opposite. That the open exhaust will keep the turbo wound up. SO what should I do? Straight pipe or one with a muffler???? and can someone please confirme one or the other. Thanks

I second that. Removing any restriction after the turbo will help increase turbo responce (reduce turbo lag).

If you go with a 5" system you'll probably need a resonator. I had to install one. The drone between 21-2000 RPMs was unbearable. Severe headaches. The resonator (a Dynaflex 5" inlet and outlet) took the edge off, deepened the sound a little, and got rid of the drone. Sounds great!

Bought my 5" system from www.bigexhaust.com . Got the muffler delete kit. on the Big Exhaust system. They carry other brands also.

Go for 5.Its loud but it sounds great.Depending on your tastes the drone might or might not be annoying.I tow alot and I actually think it sounds sweet. So,its whatever you like.As for power and spooling...I didn't notice a difference at all between the factory 3in. straight and the 5in straight. They say they will lose power running a 5in if you are not over 500-550hp.And I am no where near that, but I didn't notice anything but a better sound. But if you are still unsure put on a straight 4in.BTW,I got my kit from Rip.It is a diamond eye weld in system.Very nice kit.
