No it does not unless you want to use the Power on Demand Option.

So if you plug it in you can read and clear codes, than set whatever power level you want than unplug it ,it will stay at whatever power level you set it at?

rebel5422 Nov 14, 2008 07:59 PM

no smartys are vin number locked it wont let u run programs on two separate truck u have to take it off the first truck to put on the second and i dont think the smarty for an 01 will work on an 05 my 99 has a smarty and an edge juice w/attitude and with both of them on lvl 1 my truck ran 30mpg here in texas and ran 25mpg through missouri the thing in the roof said i was running 38mpg so i had to do the math to bad it wasnt right but i cant complain about 30mpg here even with an auto

I'm trying to avoid breaking or blowing things up on my truck but i would like to get the smarty tuner and stack it with my banks big hoss chip i have guages an intake and a 4in exhaust is there anything else i should get to avoid ruining my truck or will it be alrite the way it is? any suggestions would be nice im fairly new to the diesel game.

blujak, you might want to post this in the 3rd gen section...

Short answer... I don't think that you need to stack them, but you can always try. I do not know much about banks, but if it re-writes the ecm also, you will not be able to use it.

Do you have an aftermarket fuel pump? Tranny mods? If you turn the smarty up, a stock tranny will not last long...

I have a few Smarty questions: (1) is this going to work with my in-tank, dealer-replaced lift pump that was installed when my VP44 went down for the dirt nap, (2) will this help give me a little more power for towing my 31' TT? (3) Will this blow anything up and/or harm my engine in any way? I have an '01 with the 5 speed tranny, so I'm not too worried about that part of the equation. (4) Is the Smarty just a plug and play item, or are there permanently installed parts to it? (5) Do I need more lift pump, like an AirDog or something first?

Need advice before pulling the trigger. Thanks!
