Smarty Beta
Anybody else having trouble with the Tq management? I went to the track tonight and ran on sw4,sw6, and sw8. Duration at 4 and Tq management at 6 and couldnt build more than 10-11 psi on the lights?????
Okay a teaser- no more rpms, but violent power and so far lots of smoke. I know I haven't gotten used to it yet, but I'm smoking more now by accident than I could on purpose with the original smarty software on the same sw. I went to the tire shop for valve stem extensions this morning so I can air my tires down a bit to help with traction =X
sw6
Timing: 3 moderate
TM 6
Duration 2
It almost seems like they should ditch 1/2 the sw's now since you can select the timing you want from options. Like 1/2 power, fuel saver, valet, fuel/timing, catcher 1, catcher 2, catcher 3,.....

I put it back to stock then loaded sw8 back in and the same thing? it did build to 14psi really slow today but still not good enough to launch it hard. The old tune would build 32 on the line with minimal effort I had to be careful not to build too much boost with it. I did notice duration goes to 6, I thought it was only 5 levels???
lets keep this thread going. tell me something i need to try
An update: ALL COMMENTS ARE ON SW #9, EDGE JUICE ON #6 HOT (i am running Smarty timing #2 because of the edge box):
I Tried the SW #9, Tq Man on #2, Duration on 6, Timing on 2 the other day and I stalled the truck. I didnt think it was possible with this motor but i kept driving. The truck felt more sluggish, and got on the interstate, hit 70 mph and set the cruise and my throttle % (Edge juice) was at about 50%. It definitley took alot of the sensitivity out of the pedal.
Did some more playing and with the Tq Man #3, Timing #2, Dur. #6, it felt almost like stock as far as throttle response. Easy to launch from a stop, didnt feel like i had to concentrate so hard to keep it from bucking.
Next stop, i tried Tq Man #4, Timing #2, Dur #6. I noticed a big difference in throttle response. I was back to having to concentrate on my launches from a stop, and feeling like i had to apolgize for jerking my girlfriends head off at every stop light. If I would take off in 1st gear it would be fine, but i dont like shifting 2 times before i get across the intersection.
Next time, Tq man #4, Timing #2, Dur #4. Again I noticed a big difference in driveability. Easier to start from a stop in 2nd gear as I usually do.
Currently I am at Tq man #6, Timing #2, Dur #3. Truck is very responsive and is not as hard to manage when launching from a stop, although it is still more finnicky than without the Smarty. I think I am going to stick with this setup and my Edge ranging anywhere from #3-#6 unless anybody posts something better. The truck runs like a scalded dog right now, spools the turbo good, and i dont have to worry about looking like a 15 year old girl bouncing across the intersection trying to learn how to drive everytime i come to a stop sign
So in conclusion, torque management settings do make a difference in an early model 24 valve, and I would still like to know what exactly I am adjusting with all these options. The explaination of "moderate" and "advanced" dont tell me anything, and neither does #6 or #3.
I'm looking forward to what you all have found out. Does any one have anything to add??

good input. thanks

i just downloaded the new software im gonna try TM#3, T#3, D #6.
Well I've discovered that the speed limiter is working in OD, but not DD. 5th gear took me well over the 78 mph limit I had set, but it worked fine for 6th.
For timing I have settled on running stock timing- so timing set to 1 with any sw or timing set to 0 for even sw's. The low end smoke I was seeing early on seemed to come from the timing advance so I backed it back down to where I had it before since I get some advance from my IP already. Dieselfan- you should do the same since your edge does timing advance.
Torque management I've toyed with a bit, but I'm saving duration for last =) Spool actually is a bit better with the torque management up and the duration down for right now. On kill the truck bogs down a little between 1800-2000 rpms when the fuel is hitting hard, but so far these settings have helped slow the fueling just enough for this turbo.
Currently running sw8 timing 1 TM 5 Duration 1
More soon =)
