Slicks and BD tranny shafts

Like the title says, With how much boost can i launch on the 2wd with 28" high M/T slicks on a 9" rim, and keep my shafts in one piece?

Its the 98 auto truck in my sig.

what launching tips do you have out there?
slicks should arrive in a few weeks

thanks

gunracer, but you never broke anything?

Thats the problem, i dont know what kinda shafts it has...
i bought the whole BD tranny used, it has a BD shift kit, and a BD torque converter, but i never got to know if it has billet shafts (i couldnt tell from the looks of it, since i didnt know wjat the dirrence is between them?

the guy i bought this tranny from made 4x4 launches with this same tranny, with full hx35 boost (crazy!) and a 215 pump...

will the 62 turbo and 370 break shafts a lot easier at 20 psi boost then the other truck with a hx 35 at say at least 30 psi boost?

I dont think BD offers billet shafts in their transmissions but IDK who actually built your trans? The full built one I have on the bench only has stock shafts in it. I would think even with your slicks a 2wd after 10-15psi would be a smoke show anyway.... so chances are the shafts are safe but its always a gamble?
Anything over 5psi with my 33" tread tires in 2wd results in a flame show so those 28s will need to be pretty fresh to do anything for you.

thx. I thought slicks where the only way to get it to hook on a 2wd... we'll see once they get here! launching with a lil more boost will help a lot with times i hope!

what kinda slicks should one actualy use on these trucks?

As large as you can possibly fit. Height is or as more important as width for stick-um but height also kills your gear ratio. It will be something you need to experiment with. It's possible that your truck will be faster with a super tall tire (even though your gear ratio fell off) because you can hold it in drive to trap and not shift into OD like you will have to with the shorter tires or perhaps you can just power out harder with out spinning the tires (watch those shafts now ) with the taller tire? Lots of trial and error in going fast.
You might be able to fit a set of 31x13 on there(pretty sure my 285x16 are 32x11?). You will probably need to find a set of 15" 8 bolt rims as most slicks I've seen are 15" As mentioned be careful with used slicks as they do have a shelf life and they really only have a dozen or so good hooks in them if you are pushing them to their limit.

ok thanks a lot!

the new M/T slicks arrived, put them on the manual truck first!
man i've never ridden in a diesel which really hooks to the ground, when launching. this thing is stupid fast now... we gained about a sec in the 1/4

3800 rpms and dump the clutch..... good feeling! my cus, who drove it, shifts very fast!

i hope i can get the videos up, from our first test drive, racing a v8 trans am and a 4x4 chipped duramax!
