Semi tank as a Aux tank
 

I was at a trailer shop, and saw a 50 Aluminum tank from a truck. He said $100. Think its worth it? I'm getting ready for a big road trip. I want the extra capacity on the road, but dont want it in the bed permanently. Anything I should look out for. It is round 22"Dia by 33" length. He also has a bigger tank 43'' length by 24"dia. TRhe bigger tank is steel and the smaller one is aluminum. I'm thinking the smaller tank.

You could get creative with the mounts in the bed, and have quick disconnect lines that could be tucked away when not in use.

Slap it in the bed when you go on long trips, but remove it the rest of the time, 100 bucks seems like a good deal to me, considering an aftermarket transfer tank is 5-6 times that at least.

That is what I was thinking. What about cleaning the tank out? Anything I can do, or take it to a radiator shop? Prolly gonna pick it up thursday or so. Also what would be better the steel tank, which I think is about 75 gal, or the aluminum which is 50 gal? I think the smaller tank due to weight, being I'll also be towing on the trip.

Not sure what you are planning on your method of transfer, but I will recommend the method they used when they installed mine. They stated it was a DOT approved install for what that is worth. They used a little 15 GPH electric pump that pumps the fuel into the filler neck. YOu just have to watch the guage when you are pumping, or you will overflow the factory tank.

I tow a 11,000 lb enclosed car hauler and my extra 90 gallons of diesel does not seem to add much weight to be concerned of. I would go for as big a tank as your bladder can handle.:D
