SBC DD and IIHRVP installed!

Well, I went to see Timinva yesterday to get a South Bend 3600 plate load 12 cerametalic button clutch, upgraded hydraulics and Industrial Injection Hot Rod VP 44 installed [coffee] ! Can't say enough great things about Tim Barber "Timinva" and his crew at TRE diesel. They were awesome! As always it was a great learning experience for me too. Late night, but well worth the hard work. Idle is dead smooth and no rpm variance at all like I had before [guitar] . After firing the truck after the clutch install, it was like, hmmmmm, no double disk rattle? Well that lasted until I got to Emporia where it picked up a little but by the time I got back to Winston-Salem (home for me), it had a good solid, but not obnoxious chatter. I like the sound of it.....sounds like power! Drivability is great with the DD, maybe even better than the OFE that I took out. Great experience at Tim's!

Ok, before I headed out, I went to the dyno to see where I stood prior to the HRVP install. I'll do another dyno run in a week or two and see how it shakes out. I hope the additional fuel flow will net hp and tq increases as advertised. I'll update that later. Anyway, here are the dying HO VP dyno results:

Pull #1 TST on 9, Smarty on 9 - HP 522.27 TQ 979.18

Pull #2 TST on 8, Smarty on 9 - HP 522.37 TQ 968.30

Pull #3 Edge Comp on 5x5 , stock ecm settings HP (lifted early) 517.13 HP 984.56 TQ

Pull #4 same as #3 (full 3000 + rpm run) 521.43 HP 982.34 TQ

Pull #5 Edge Comp 5x5, Smarty on 8 - 534.48 HP 977.88 TQ

I brain farted and forgot to run TST on 9, Edge Comp in EZ mode for timing and Smarty on 8. Also, same with stock ecm. I'll do these next time and maybe even one with TST and HRVP only and possibly Edge and HRVP only. I may wait a few weeks to send the Comp to Edge and make it a Drag Comp first. I do have buddy with one though that I may be able to trade out for a day or two.

Updates will follow when I get a chance to dyno again. Any input on dyno opinions and combinations are welcomed.

What kind of a dyno were you on? Nice numbers

Charlie8301 07-15-2006 07:51 PM

Good number for a dying HO pump, torque numbers seem somewhat low? I would have thought the smarty/tst would make more then the smarty/comp, cant wait to see the numbers with the new pump!

Dynojet. All of my runs have been on Dynojet dynomometers.

Tim, thinks I'd show about 50 more hp on what I had on this dyno run by doing the Drag upgrade to my Edge. I'm debating that but it would be better if I could borrow my buddies and try it out first.

Yeah, I was hoping for a grand on torque, but maybe the HRVP will get me there. Twins usually don't generate as much torque as big singles, but still, I thought I'd break 1000.

I thought you would have been the the 1100-1200 ftlb range easy, my 1.5's laid down 990. Something just don't seem right, mabe the HO pump?

Thats great TR. Looks like the M6's gave you a good boost in power over your last run.

I'd like to see a smarty/injector only run so you can see how much of a difference the boxes make in comparision.

So what does the butt dyno say about the shovp44?

Yeah, single turbo's will lay down more torque. I lost 3 foot pounds from stock turbo and M1.5's to BD twins and 155hp BD injectors. Some think I may get to 1100 with the HRVP. I hope, but I'll report what the dyno says.

CTD2001 07-16-2006 10:12 AM

why are torque numbers lower with twins then with a big single?

Advertised difference between BD155's and M6's should be 65hp. 220 hp (-) 155 hp = 65. Actual was 81 hp gain. Don's injectors are better than advertised. I can't say enough good things about them. Really quietened my truck down and they are still clean.

I had the Smarty on #4 and Edge (in EZ mode) on 2x1 on the return trip (TST turned off). Shifting through the gears tells me the HRVP is going to make a big difference. The Smarty on my truck in lower settings has still been sluggish (prior to HRVP). I think I'll make more HP and TQ but I haven't turned any boxes up at all yet. Just wanted to make sure my clutch was taken care of early on.

I went from Bully Dog stage 5, older then the ones that they have now, i think they were rated for 150hp, With those injec and the the Sledpuller 66, mad ecm and drag comp, i pulled 480/880. I then installed the Mach 6s and went back to the dyno, this time is was a mustang and not a dyno jet, my torque went up by over 200 ft/lbs, but my hp only increased by 5hp. Something does not seem right. I need to get back on the dynojet. Do you run the smarty with timing when you run the drag comp?

Dang, you had to ask didn't you? I was actually looking for the explanation I had gotten on a previous post to put into my last post. I couldn't find it. I'll keep looking cause I can't remember.....it probably over my head.... [laugh]

By the way, my TQ # on M1.5's was 868 with stock HX35, so sounds like you got a great TQ # out of those injectors. What dyno and what turbo was that on?

I don't have the "drag" upgrade on my comp although I may do this as Tim Barber tells me this is usually good for 50 hp or so. I run Smarty on even SW's (no timing) with the comp.

CTD2001 07-16-2006 10:31 AM

My torque numbers came with the Sledpuller 66 and it was on a mustang dyno, big increase with the mach 6s for torque, but only a 5hp increase [eyecrazy]

I'd say that is because of the dynojet vs mustang dyno's. If you had a before and after on the same or at least same brand, you'd have good comparison. Those dyno's are too different. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, you've got good running truck with those mods.
