Rough Idle After Jammer's

Since I put my Jammer nozzles in, Stage III's) I have had a rough idle when the engine warms up. This morning it was pretty cool (about 35*) when I left for class and it was fine till I got down the road a little ways and warmed up then it idled rough again.

If I rev up to about 1K rpms then its smooth as silk, as normal.

Call me stooopid if this is because I didnt have them pop-tested, if so thats what I will do eventually,

Whats the worst than can happen if injectors nozzles are not even across the set?

Thanks for the Help,
Jamie

Uneven EGT's per cylinder, rough idling, poor economy, etc. I'd take them out and have them pop tested as soon as you can. From what I've read it's not that expensive.

O.k. I have to ask a stupid question. Do you have a fuel leaking out where the injector line fits into the head. Try tighten up the adjuster bolts. Mine idle awful at first, but I had a leak on the back injector. After tighting it up it idle smooth and made awsome power. Did you install the new copper washers on the bottom of the new injectors? Simple things that cause you big issues if not right.

Mike is right, it sounds like you have a very small leak. If you do, at very low fueling levels, like idle, you may not be able to build enough pressure to pop the injector open. Same thing if you still have a little air in the lines.

No, you are not stupid, tons of us did nozzles without pop testing the injectors and we are fine.

Yes, pop testing is a good thing, particularly if the injectors you put the nozzles on are high mileage units. But there are allot of people who overdo the importance of pop testing and exaggerate the nozzle differences in an attempt to talk people into buying you know who's high dollar injectors, or make them feel stupid for not buying you know who's injectors.

Sit tight and check for leaks before you take it all apart again for the pop testing.

Well Ill check for leaks, Now that I think about it, I may not have cranked on that back injector line. I have had the injectors in for about 400 miles, can air still be in the lines, I sure wouldnt think so, but maybe.

There is a Diesel inj serv here in lubbock and they said they pop test for
F R E E. so its worth looking into if I cant find a leak

They nozzles did not come with the copper washers, I resued the old ones, is this good or bad?

Thanks a Million

Umm....that is bad!

Assuming you have no line leaks, don't bother doing ANYTHING else until fresh copper injector sealing washers are installed. They are a one-time use only type of gasket that will almost certainly leak to some extent if reused and it sounds like you may have one or two leaking bad enough to cause a problem.

Where can I get some of the washers. Sounds like that could a big part of my problem.

Thanks again,
Jamie

Diesel injection will have them... might even give them to you... but since they will check them for free.. might as well pull them out.. and have them check the pressures...

If you re-anneal the copper gaskets can you re-use them? When you torque them they get hard, but annealing them should soften them up again. We do this with 1500# liquid ethylene gaskets and it works great, but these may be different.

I think Ill just take them to Diesel Inj and get some from them.

Thanks Alot for the Help,
Jamie

Kinda another ?

Im only seeing about 30# of boost @ WOT. It gets there in a hurry then stops there, the pyro will only get to 1200* at tops, I was thinking most people on here with similar fuel levels are seeing more boost and more heat, Im not complaining but just wondering, if thats right then thats great.

Nope, thats about dead-on the money for your mods. That EZ cools it down tremendously. If you were to take it out, you will see the heat levels other guys complain about. As for the boost stopping right at 30, that is just a function of the wastegate boost elbow. If you want a tad more, crank the allen head in just a tad. It doesnt make much sense to go much over 35 Psi on that turbo though, so play with it until it hits about that.

I dont have the boost elbow, i have a turnbuckle on the WG.

Get this,

this was an email reply for Diesel INJECTION services.

"I can pop test those but I don't have any way to adjust them. I am also not familiar with Jammer stage III nozzles so if there is a problem you will need to go back through your supplier."

Figured they would know how to adjust a injector. I have no Idea what to do but figured they would considering their name.

Thanks Again
Jamie

Let them know they are just 24V Cummins injectors.. they should have a shim kit and be able to adjust the pressures...
