Looks great man. I don't know though. With all the purple and red lights, I'm getting kinda scared to get in your truck. Afraid you might make a move on me or something.

 

On my 95 I was told the HVAC bulbs are a dealer only item.

 

hey i have not read all the posts but you wont be able to read some maps that have red by using the red filter on your lights.... in military our topo maps were set up for being used like that for that reason...

LOL to be NVG compatible you need IR filter tape which looks completely black and keeps all visible light from coming through. We modified our A-10 cockpits with it early in the day as NVGs were just coming into the cockpits...

That's edit!! I am thinking the purple is from the green tint built into the gauge cluster.. red & green = purple? I'll ask my wife the artist..

Yeah, that's been discussed in the thread. You're right...the red light washes out red on maps. But I don't have to read my maps too terribly often, and I always have white light within arm's reach if I need it. However, I am thinking about looking around for a small 12v black light that I could install as a map light.

Yep, that's it. I tried several other methods, including putting red spotlight gel behind the gauge face (blocked out almost all the light) and using red maker on the back of one of the dash marks (didn't really change the color and cut out too much light). So pretty much the best option was to change the bulbs and just live with the consequence of shining red through green. Still looks cool though, I think!

 

Phil, have you checked into the bulbs for the headlight switch? My backlight on the switch doesn't work, but I haven't hacked into it yet to figure out what I need to get them going again.

 

Purple = Blue and Red
Green = Blue and Yellow.
Orange = Red and Yellow

So, red and green equal a shade of purple, with wee bit of orange thrown in.

I would love to have blue LED's in mine, but im sure that would be pretty hard to do. How hard would it be to make them blue?

Mine's the same way. It only lights up once a month if that often. At one point I couldn't remember whether or not it lit up.

 

I think it went out when I hooked my gauges up to the wire on the back to get the dimming function. So I haven't had a backlight on that switch for a few years now. But every once in a while on my trip between Plano and Giddings I look at it and wonder if there is a way to fix it....short of shelling out for the new gauge.

 

Blue should be easy... I think I may be doing one blue here before long... I will give you a full report...

Yip my new head unit has blue indicators on it, my extra switch has a blue light on it aas well. That is the color I was going to do.


Any info on the black light leds? I looked and didnt get much info. still searching though
