Reasons for low power??

Well this is the 3rd dyno I've been to and the 3rd time I've lost power. A while back I dynoed 496 with TST/Smarty/KSB-1/155hp injectors. Next time was 462hp with TST COMP/Smarty/Phat Shaft 62/12/BD 155's. The time after that I did 464hp with TST COMP/Smarty/Phat Shaft 62/12/BD 155's/20% Meth. Saturday I did 451hp with TST COMP/Smarty/Phat Shaft 62/12/200+hp injectors/20% Meth. I think my injection pump is getting weak. It's got 131k on it and it's been tapped for 110k. I noticed today that there was a slight miss at idle I've never heard before and my mileage went from 14-15 on the trip up to dallas and on the way home I was getting 11-12mpg. I guess I'm just wandering why a solid 500hp combination will not dyno over 500. The truck runs great but the dyno just seems to tell a different story.

You had great luck with your injector pump. Call it a 100,000 mile tune up.

Yeah i dont know thats what i thought was up with mine after i dynoed low and took it to the track and ran slower too, so i did put a new pump on it but havent dynoed or ran it yet to verify, and at 550hp it's hard to tell a 40 50 hp loss or gain, trucks down now snapped my rear pinion again so im lookin for a Dana 80

I agree...sounds like a VP getting weak. I ran a 476hp/936lbft with only a Edge Comp [not drag], Dragon flow 10 hole, HTB2 62/12. You should have a easy 500hp....something is wrong for sure.

I think it is the billet fuel door, the truck hates you for putting it on.

Tyler,
There is nothing wrong with your injector pump......it's just your imagination.

No charlie, that would be yours.

I had a feeling it was the injection pump. Just wanted reassurance before I commit myself to saving up and spending the money on it. It would explain the constant loss of prime, lower mileage, and now the slight bump at idle after extended driving. Oh well. Can't be to mad. It's been tapped for 110k miles and about 10k of those were with no fuel pressure. That's gotta be some kind of record for these pumps.

Big Blue, just pull that pump and sell it on ebay, it still works and someone will get another 20K out of it. Just don't let it go for less than your core charge!

I definately won't be doing that. Who knows how much longer the pump has to live. I'd feel horrible selling that to somebody and having it die on them the next day. I know I'd be ticked off if somebody did that to me. Doing something like that would be beyond dishonest in my book.

the idle/bump at idle is prolly the injectors/smarty. my truck has done it with the 150 injectors and the 200's. it only does it when warm and there will be a slight bump or miss in the idle every 5-10-15 seconds, its random.

but for the power loss and mileage loss, sounds like the timing on the VP isnt working right, do you have high EGT's??

The miss at idle was never there before with the 200's. In fact, it's the smoothest the truck has ever been. Smoother than factory and a lot smoother than the BD 155's.

I've got high EGT's but I attribute them to the 200+hp injectors and 62/12 turbo. Although one member is running mach 8's/tst/catcher/62/12 turbo and he's only seeing 1500* so possibly the timing isn't working on it? Maybe that's why I've felt the truck doesn't have enough timing? I dunno. There's so much to these pumps that I'm unsure about. All I know is that yall have pretty much confirmed that it's the pump.

Got the money for the pump. Great thing though is that if it is my pump and I should be over 500hp I should feel one heck of an increase in power.

I think a little more air wouldnt hurt the numbers either, although it is low for that combo.
