Pyro probe depth.
Ok just installed the X-monitor. All was good except it seemed that the probe will touch the bottom of tyhe exhaust port. Since the compression nut on the probe was already tightened, I cant readjust it, without doing some funky adaptor to adpator to raise the probe thing. I pulled the turbo out of the way. (didnt undo anything but the 4 mounting bolts) and using an inspection mirror, If it isnt touching it sure is close! The EGTs seem to be normal from everyone elses here, so if the probe is touching the bottom of the manifold, will it throw off the egts, will it hurt the probe, is a space needed for heat expansion of the probe? Is it all good or should I raise it and then by how much. Does the tip of the probe tip need to be in the center of the port, or does it not matter? Fyi it is 1/4 npt fittings

If the probe hits the bottom of the runner, it could break off and find its merry way into the turbo.....Not a good thing.
Optimally, the tip should be in the center of the runner.
Can you loosen the compression nut and pull the probe back?

Nope tried that already. That little compression ring? has been compressed aroung the probe already. I can't find a fitting that I need. Basically a 1/4npt female to 1/4 npt male. A useless fitting, will do nothing more than space the tip up about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. I guess I can braze some parts to make my own fitting. Anyone ever done this?

I shall give that a try then. Thanks What if I "nick" the probe? no biggie or then is it trashed? BTW are you the same duner with a white Dak? the unRT? If so I met ya at Firebird I had a green 99 Dak. I met you before the forced induction treatment, and ran into ya again at Mopars at the strip.

I did the same thing as what Duner recommended when I moved my egt probe from post turbo to pre. Just be carefull and you won't have a prob. You can get the new ferrel at about any hardware store. They were out of the size I needed, but I just ended up buying a compression fitting that came with one.
Duner!?! Do you own a Dakota at all??? If not that is where I confused your name one time. I just find it hard to believe that there are two guys from Phoenix that use "duner" for a screen name.
