pusher pump question
 

I hear you guys talking about pusher pumps. In theory the pusher pump pushes fuel to your lift pump, then on into your injection pump, right ??? So the pusher pump helps feed the lift pump, but what if the pusher pump fails? will the lift pump still be able to pull fuel past the pusher pump or will the pusher create a "dam" and not let any fuel past it. Also at what point should a guy look at getting a pusher pump ??? see sig. Thanks in advance.

If the push pump stops working....your lift pump WONT get fuel! The 2k 2500 that we bought for my wife had a Carter push pump on it...and it finally decided to go bad...it in effect acted like a fuel shutoff.
Running the push pump I would see 22lbs of pressure and once I removed the push pump I see 16-17lbs of pressure @ idle. With the setup on her truck right now..(DD II's and Edge EZ) on a WOT I see 11-12lbs with just the lift pump. The truck does have -6n steel braided lines which does help feed this beast.
I have looked at the new FASS system as a replacement for the lift pump in the future. This system looks like it is built to last..

I've heard that if you add a pusher pump, it will make the trucks hard starting from to much pressure. I also had a cummins diesel mechanic tell me that as long as you have some kind of fuel pressure going into the injection pump, it is getting all the fuel it needs. It's when you get a negative pressure reading or zero pressure that the vp44 has to start sucking its own fuel which will reduce pump life and power. Don't know if these statements are true, just what I was told. If your pressure is low I would put a larger fuel line kit on, like the one wildcat sales.

i have a pusher pump and like it...i also have a switch so when i first start it ( for about 2-3 seconds) it's not on so the pressure to the VP isn't too high... "ZIP" is right on the initial over pressure thing
