power falls off at the top
power falls off at the top
I have only done a few modifications to my truck so far, and am very happy with the results.
The thing I want to work on now is the mid-top end power. The truck pulls real hard from the bottom, but it seems to fade is I get up around 2200 and higher. I find myself wanting it to shift sooner to get back in the power.
I use my truck to tow a pretty heavy trailer up long steep grades in the Sierra Nevadas, and also use it as a daily driver.
So far I have a smarty, AFE stage 2 intake, 4 inch exhaust. I have already ordered and am waiting for the arrival of my goerend triple disc TC and high pressure VB.
What would ya'll recommend? I was thinking about getting something to control my waste gate to get more boost up top. Does that sounds like the correct path for this?
Thanks again,
WR

but a fueling module that taps your VP wire and/or injectors will for sure give you the top end youre looking for. but it will be HOT.
the module can be turned off, the injectors cannot...which can be helpful when towing. just something to remember when making a decision...
You can hit 1350 degrees with just a smarty? Is that empty or towing?Man I have never seen over 1300 with smarty on 8 and a drag comp on 5x5,but that is empty and I have a 5 speed too.Just wanted to add that that seems a little hot if empty.Oh ya get a boost elbow or j hook too
The smarty is what is making your truck feel it has no power above 2200rpm. I think it starts to cut fueling back as you get in to the higher rpms. SOmething like an edge comp, edge ez would give you power all the way to 2700rpm or 3200 with the edge drag comp. That is way i sold my smarty was because the truck would not pull as hard above 2200 with the smarty as it would without.
I can hit those temps when running the smarty with a load. Without a load I can keep them pretty low.
If what you say is true about the smarty, than the smarty does not work well for towing. If I am not in OD, when towing on the highway, my RPM's are always over 2 grand.

Do you want to tap the wire or keep the wire clean?
Two cost effective options that will both help are our new XZT+ box. It will help a bunch up top, does NOT tap the wire and is adjustable.
Or, our regular XZT box will also do the trick and is a fueling only box but, it taps the pump wire.

My truck is under a DC warranty, so I need to be able to make it appear stock. That is why I went with the Smarty.
Would either of the products you mentioned allow me to easily return the truck to stock should I need to get it repaired at the dealer?
Thanks,

would the injectors you mentioned be good for towing? Are you thinking that these will increase power in the top of the range that I am looking for? Would they increase the EGT's in comparison to my current injectors?
