P.S. High Idler
|
in what kind of situation would you want something like that.
|
Pro-Longed Idleing & Warming up the engine to name two.
Dont tell me you let your truck sit there and idle at low RPM's for long periods of time? If so, I feel sorry for your engine. |
no longer than a couple minutes...i had no idea that was harmful to it
|
I have been debating whether i need/want one of these. I know some people use a stick, which is definately more affordable, but i would like to be able to flip a switch and have high idle engaged when i leave my truck running. The longest i usually let my truck idle now is fueling/bathroom break or running inside real quick (5-10mins max). Just not sure if i really need one.
|
I've been running mine for about 4 months with no problems. It does what its supposed to do.
|
can you set it to any rpm (within its paramaters of course) that you want?
|
i would like one becuase sometimes i like to let my truck run in the mornings when its real cold to warm up. I would like to be able to put a little load on the engine while its sitting there.
Also, sometimes i dont want to shut my truck off becuase i dont know if im gonna be out of it form 5 mins, or 25 mins. (sometimes i talk to much and forget my truck is running.) |
Its adjustable to any RPM up to 1550. I use it for the same reasons you described that you needed it for and havent had any problems. It doesnt load the engine "much" but it keeps my egt gauge at about 325* from 1200RPM and up. Compared to when idling the gauge reads 250-275*.

Cummins4Life,
Sounds interesting! If you have the time please describe the system and how it hooks up. Does it have a rheostat with a knob on it that controls the idle? Electronically does it plug in under the hood at the apps or? Where did you mount your control in the cab? How hard was it to install and how much time did it take? Thanks, George |
George, it's just as you describe. PLugs into the APPS harness near the VP44. It's just a twist knob, with normal idle at one end and 1550 rpm at the other.
Works like a charm and installs easily. I was impressed with it on a friend's truck. Justin |
how is it activated, i have a 5 speed, if i push the clutch in will it sit there and vary idle even while driving
|
I am pretty sure that this is the case, so you won't want to use it unless the truck is stationary. You could hurt your clutch in a hurry.
