P-pump coersion on 24 valve, is it worth it?

A friend of mine is running a hot rod vp-44 on his 01. He is currently running a TST comp, smarty, 100hp injectors, 66/13 turbo, McCleod twin disc clutch. He is thinking of changing the cam out and was thingink about coverting it to a p-pump while we had it apart. The guys that have done it, was it worth the money and time?

Depends what your goals are? With my particular swap, a 12v would have made more financial sense, but the electrical would have been much more work. My truck doesn't like the cold as much as it did with the VP, around 1500 rpm on a cold start will produce a lot of white smoke and it will feel like its missing. A few minutes at idle or better yet, running 30 km/h in 3rd will get rid of that in a minute or two. Feels smoother than the VP I had (HRVP), easy to work on, I know the system fairly well compared to the VP. Would I do it again? Absolutely! This is on a daily driven truck, and will eventually be a tow pig for my new toy.

If it was as easy to do on the 01-02 trucks as it is the earlier years, i would have done it this winter. But from what I gather its not as easy to do on the later VP trucks because of certain sensors and how they work for the tach pickup etc.

Need the cam sensor hole machined over a bit in the case. Well, youve seen those threads on Comp-D already I'm sure. The cruise might be interesting to on the HO's, as the are electronic.

i dont have cruise or any options...i just want all my dash gauges to work with it if i do it

the cover and bracket that comes in the kit from haisley will allow you to keep you factory guages on the 01-02 trucks. the only thing that willl not work is the cel will be on.

Is the case machined from Haisely? From what I read, the hole needs to be machined towards the engine a bit more for the pickup to read correctly. I've got the Schieds kit, and it has the adapter for the Cam sensor, but it just bolts right where the timing pin is on the 12v.
