NV4500 vs. NV5600

Quick question for yall:

I have found all of the parts to put a 5 speed in for ~$2000. In order to put the 6 speed in it would take another ~$2400 for just the tranny. I am still in college so money is a BIG factor. Will the 5 speed hold up (if I fix the fifth gear nut, or whatever that problem was) to the power my truck has (check out my signature) for a few years until I can afford the six speed? Or, should I shell out the cash now?

Thanks for the opinions.

Hey there, What all parts do you need to do the swap. I am very interested in doing this, because It will take alot of money to get the auto full up to par to handle 400/900. Thanks

I'm sure the 5 spd will hold up fine(6 spd's just came out in 99 and people have been bombing these trucks a lot longer than that), but if your dead set on having a 6 spd it might be cheaper to spend the money now??? Personaly I would stick with the 5 spd.

OK, so if I decide to do the 5 speed, what upgrades do I need to do to the tranny. I know there is something about the fifth gear nut. Also, I have heard something about a bigger shaft (input maybe). Can anyone help me out with this. I was thinking that switching over to the six speed later will only cost me extra time and my driveshafts will have to be modified again. This should be the only thing that I have to "redo". Thanks again for the help.

You will have to get a different clutch. I would stick with 5 speed.

The five speed will hold up, my friend has more mods to his truck with the fifth gear nut fix and it works fine, but i would recommend the six speed if you want to have fun, that split between second and third makes a world of difference to me, and i wouldnt go back to the nv4500, i actually prefer my getrag to the 4500. too bad it would cost as much as my truck is worth to swap in a 5600
