New trans time??? or not??
New trans time??? or not??
How do you guys know when you need a new trans? mine has been shifting funny, and slips like crazy when I hammer it. a while back my 2nd gear apply lever fell out. under normal driving conditions my RPMs drop about 1000 rpms when the TC locks up.
Rebuild time! Don't run it too long and don't let it slip too often- the rest of the internals will hate you and hurt your wallet if you keep lots of fresh debris circulating through it.
There are update kits and refresher kits around. (eg DTT master update kit)

well I am going to be ordering a full Goerend trans this week. its going to hurt with the shipping and sending my core back across the pond, but hopefully its worth it. What extras do you guys think I should get? so far I plan on getting the billet flex plate, 1 piece sonnax billet input shaft extra. it comes with the tripple disk converter, upgraded valve body and all kinds of other goodies
Lance, we've all heard great things about Dave's trannys, but with your shipping cost, it might be better to find a good shop and just order the parts to make yours the same. Or you might find a core on ebay and have it shipped to Dave so you don't have to pay the cost of shipping yours. Just some ideas, i hate to see a guy spend 1-2K on shipping.
If you can use a shop with a little more than basic tools (mainly a press and some measuring tools) you can rebuild the tranny yourself. (except for the VB and the TC , that should be shipped)
I was in the same situation over here and Bill Kondolay at DTT helped me out. They sent me just the parts I needed and were available by phone when I needed them-and since the tranny works flawlessly for more than 150 k miles now I think I may say that this way it can be done.

I was going to do that, but my friend here that owns the drag strip is going to hook me up on shipping the tranny from california to here in one of his containers. shipping is going to be 250 from iowa to california, and only 60 bucks for the boat ride all the way to Guam. Couldn't beat that. that cost is about the same price as shipping a bunch of boxes of parts to rebuild it.
