New solution to mounting a gauge pillar in a 2nd gen
I came up with a solution to mounting gauge pillars on the 2nd gen. You don't have to mount the new pillar over the old pillar at all, makes it easier to run wires and lines. My pillar was unsupported when I installed it. I wanted to find a way to anchor the upper portion of the pillar. Heres what I did:
The kit I ordered (diesel manor) came with some plastic grommets. I came up with an idea to use a piece of the old factory pillar to use as the upper anchor. I used my dremel to carve out a piece of the upper pillar.
NOTE : superglue will not work to hold the pillar.

I then used these to anchor :

I mounted and lined up the new pillar and using a drill with a 3/16th bit, put in two holes. What I ended up with was a secured pillar that still looked decent and removable if needed.

Or for a cleaner look take your old pillar and cut the top of it so you have the clip and epoxy it inside the new pillar. Then just snap it in. Same idea ya have there but with out drillng holes and having plugs there.
My 97 I could take the stock 1 off, and put the new one up with 1 screw, and put a chrome cap[like you get at the truckstops for the big rig dashes, comes in black or chrome} on it, looked fine, held up fine...
Missed the last part in your post jrs Dodge Diesel, about the super glue. What I used was some rough sand paper and scuffed the s*** out of the piece of old pillar I cut off and scuffed the inside of my new pillar where it would sit and 2 part epoxyed it , held pressure on them for 2 min. in my hands and it aint commin off.
