New dyno numbers.

Yesterday I went to Carolina Auto Masters in Durham, NC. I was a bit nervous about getting on the rollers. I went up there with the intent of dynoing the Mach 4.5, Smarty, HTB2 64/12 combo. I did dyno that combo, but not before trying my new TST PM3.

With TST level 7, Mach 4.5, Smarty >9 and Killer B2 the truck went 461.3 hp and 999.8 tq.

With the TST off, the truck made 383.3 and 823.7 My previous dyno was 360/840 with M4.5 and Catcher ECM and Hx35. I gained 23HP, but lost 16 #'s of TQ. I was really hoping to break 400 HP with the addition of the new turbo.
I know Bob W. made 401 with M4's Catcher and a hybrid, I would have bet good money on my truck making 400+. Oh well, no use crying over spilt diesel.

DynoJet? The numbers are OK, but should be higher.

More like 530 with everything and 420 with the sticks and Smarty.

How is your low side fuel pressure feeding the VP44?

Hi Don, Yes this was on a DynoJet with the heavy roller, sorry I didn't mention that earlier. I have a Holly Blue pusher with a new Cummins lift pump. I'm seeing about 27 psi at idle give or take. EGT's where pretty high 1500+ by the end of the run, and I'm seeing 40 lbs of boost, HTT factory set.

Weather? Sometimes the DJ software will correct the HP numbers DOWN in cool and high pressure weather unfairly.

I think your power is about 8-9% lower than I would expect. Certainly worth looking into to find it.

Don, Air temps were around 63 degrees, not sure on the humidity. This dyno is mainly used to tune gasser, so I'm not sure how much the correction factor played into the final numbers?

Any suggestions as to what to look at?

One other thing to mention. On level 9 with the TST I lost power as well, but I kinda of expected that with previous TST user comments.

Thanks,

Mike

I am thinking about it today and will get back. Even the Smarty numbers alone were low. Winter fuel will only account for maybe 3%, so we still have troubles somewhere.

Good numbers. I would think you should have seen close to 500hp, your torque seems about right though. Keep us informed if you make any more runs with this combo, I am looking to add some Mach injectors (4.5-4.9's?) to my combo and get it to 500hp, i hope.

I was there with Mike D. to witness his run and was very happy to see him run so well, even though the numbers may be down somewhat. My congratulations to you Mike! You have come on a LONG WAY from that 244/582 run you made at our "N.C. Dyno Day" way back on 11-05-05 that's for sure!

Don, I know that Mike's VP-44 may be getting a little "wore out" and we felt that might be accounting for some of the loss there. I know that when my VP-44 began "going south" I lost 3-4 tenths in the quarter mile.

I sure wouldn't be crying over 1000 ft/lbs! Congrats.

Yeah guys, the truck runs good, and one thing Mike D. DIDN"T tell you is how great it was running when he and I were headed E/B down I-40 to "McMopar's" house at over 100 MPH AFTER an idiot in an F-150 cut Mike off BAD and we had to "smoke him out!"

I don't want to give the impression that I'm unhappy or anything. I thought the truck did good. If Don or anyone else for that matter can help me untap some more HP I'm all for it! What can I say I'm greedy! I'm a junky looking for another fix. The truck does run really well. It will flat out get up and go!

John P was great to come out and support me. I should have mentioned that yesterday, but I was half asleep for most of the day. We had a great time, even if I was the only truck he got to watch dyno, after everyone who was suppose run their trucks cancelled, John good to his word made the trek up to watch me on the rollers. I always said I wanted to have a truck that ran as good as his 02. John's a true friend, he says what he does and does what he says. Thanks buddy.
