Need some help on TST power max 3 drag
I just recently purchased another 24 valve and I would like to put this power max 3 drag box on it is a 99 truck 5 speed 4x4 quad cab. I have had a bad experiance with this box already it cost me $1000.00 for a new injection pump last year,But now I would like to install it they way that it should be installed with the pusher pump and all or even the best way to install it and what size injectors to use with it.This is my wifes truck but when I get in it I want it to get it she does not even use this thing just me I already have all of the gauges too, Any help or suggestion would be a great big help here in saving another PUMP...OHH yaa I have a clutch for it as well...
The box did NOT cause your pump to fail, per se. The early VPs were pretty weak.
I would hesitate to tap the wire on a '99 as those pumps seem to be frail as well.
A pusher pump will NOT prevent a pump failure from tapping the wire. It is the extra duty cycle on the solenoid that causes it.

I've had a PM on my truck of some form or another for close to 6 years now and my injection pump is as strong as the day I bought it.
I ran a PM 2 for almost 4 years with 275hp injectors, ran the PM2 with DD3's for a year, and now I'm running a PM 3 Comp with BD4's and it's an awesome performer.
Don't listen to all the "VP44 na sayers", Tap the wire and grin at it.
Don't waste your money on a pusher pump either, put a set of drilled banjos in and a new lift pump, along with a fuel pressure gauge and you're good to at least 500 ponies.

I'm thinking of getting the PM3 because of the incorportated gages on the remote. My 99 auto q cab is bone stock except for the exaust. Am I supposed to upgrade the injectors 1st?
Also is the EGT temp input on the PM3 compatable with an older style pyrometer sender? If it is I may just install a pyrometer for now until the PM3 comes down a little in cost or untill I get a raise or something

I just talked to mark at tst and he said the powermax 3 will work just fine with stock injectors and that the time he has seen the pumps go is when you are accelerating hard and let off of it cause it dont lube the pump and it fries the rotor in the pump very good guy and lots of knowledge..still not sure if im gonna use mine or not..need more feedback..
I didn't mean to imply that the 99s VPs are UNreliable. Just that they have HIGHER incidences of failure than later years seem to.
NO doubt many have tapped the wire with success on even 98.5s. This isn't unusual.
And, as the Blue Chip article mentions, a wire-tap box can be a glass half-full scenario since if the pump survives the wire tap, it will last a LONG LONG TIME.

A PM3 will run fine with stock injectors, with the stock injectors it will also make your EGT's a little easier to manage. The PM3 Comp really makes some wicked HP with big injectors, keep in mind that the boxs says Compatition Version for a reason.
You are talking some serious fueling when you run this box on levels 7 - 9.

Oh I totally understand that they make heat but have you really ever driven a Bone Stock truck it is a SLUG I dont want to run it on any more than probally 4-5 maybe 6 but the way it runs now it will get ya killed if you pull out onto the highway and gas it they just dont go..I cant believe that people can drive these things stock and then pull a trailer with it..Thats crazy.I just want to have some fun once in a while not get to stupid with it I mean it does have a bunch miles of on it with the ORIGINAL clutch 346,661 to be exact so I dont want to be to hard on it..So the next project will be CLUTCH..Thanks alot for all of the help..
I sware when I bought my 99 I thought "Wow this thing was loads of power", the 4:10's in mine I think made a hudge difference there. Now 6 years latter I couldn't even tell you what stock was like.
Good luck with the PM.
