I have a history of being long winded and trying to explain everything in great detail. I will try to keep this as short as possible.

What would you think about a product for the 98.5-02 trucks that was targeted strictly at mileage and not performance?

What I am talking about is a simple plug and play box with an On/OFF switch that will guarantee say a 10-20% increase in mileage. It will offer EGT reduction, Better Mileage, Better throttle response and updatability to a 70 hp module via web update (you wil pay extra for this.)

Now, to top this off since it is economy based we need to make it priced economically. Lets say we have the retail price somewhere around 1/2 price of the XZT+ modules.

What do you think?

Now, if you like it, you can keep your mileage setting and upgrade at your leisure to an on the fly adjustable 65hp module at any time.

Sort of. You start with the milege product. If you like it you upgrade. In the end it costs the same.

No need to send it back, just upgrade it at your leisure or enjoy it as is.

 

im sure there are just as many people out there who buy performance items for their diesel to increase milage as there are people who want more power and dont care if it gets 20 gallons to the mile or 20 miles per gallon.

 

I think it would sell like crazy. All you would have to do is show the math in the advertising and that it would pay for itself within 10-15k miles. I think it's a no brainer then, plus if the purchaser gets bit by the bombing bug, another $150 to upgrade to the XZT+ is an easy sale.

 

with the ever rising cost of fuel, if you could prove it would raise the mpg, then it would be a hot seller.

 

I know I would have bought it when I first got my truck before the bombimg bug bit. I like the idea of being upgradable, always nice to know you can get more performance later on.

I think it would have to be closer to a 20% increase or more because almost every mod Ive bought has "claimed" 1-2 mpg increase, except the injectors of course. Now they don't deliver really but i think it would have to stand out for people to buy it.JMHO

 

What effect would larger injectors and a Smarty have on the increased mileage? In other words, is the increase based on current mileage or on a stock truck?

 

Awesome idea quad!!! Would sell extremely well if you can prove the fuel economy savings as stated before. That being said, that is not an easy task and there is no "one answer fits all" due to all the variables out there on these trucks that affect MPG, it would be best to have lots of test data on different "common" configurations of these trucks (stock, mild injectors, big injectors, timing/fueling boxes etc).
If the assumption is that the user is not going to stack with other boxes, that variable can be removed from the equation.

I think it's a great idea...don't know if it's possible but what I think might sell best would be the ability to "piggyback" it with your other products allowing us the option of going to the economy mode when traveling...

 

This sounds EXACTLY like what I want. I'd love to be in economy mode when doing running around or light travel, then be able to bump it up when I'm towing or feeling frisky.

 

That's my main goal in my truck, is the economy side (well close second to dependability) , good idea.

 

I voted yes, but this assumes many tests to prove validity... Lots of fuel magnets and tornados out there!
