My CTD vs Stock Duramax
Re:My CTD vs Stock Duramax
Just for information only, there are programmers out for the D-max now that raise that speed limiter.

Diablosport Predator Max Speed on 2001 trucks = 110 mph
Max Speed on 2002-2003 trucks = 125 mph

By the way, I have been bitten by that 94 mph speed limiter several times.

Re:My CTD vs Stock Duramax
I don't think I've ever gone 94 mph in my life....except on airplanes. :
I did hit the governor on my Chevy S-10 one time.....at 90 mph. That's when I was young(er) and stupid(er). :

One thing people need to remember (I think I'm correct in saying this. Correct me if I'm wrong.) is there aren't many truck tires out there rated past 95 mph. :'(

reera
Re:My CTD vs Stock Duramax
My truck pulls so hard and is so fast I have noticed on many occasions that when I pass and Im on the floor by the time I get out of it my truck is running over 100 MPH. I have been driving my dads duramanx I know
all week with the hot box while my truck is painted and its pretty fun to drive to. Anyone that drives on can't deny that first gear crawler with the hot box is a laugh it pulls like mad in first gear. Only thing I don't like is waiting for it to warm up to whatever temp before you can really high ball it. I like to CTD you can get on it and go anytime.

Stock against stock or bombed against bombed is one thing...and you can brag a little if you win. Bombed against stock you should ALWAYS win.....so where's the challenge?
Not looking for braging rights. Just asking about what the performance of a stock Duramax was like.

Re:My CTD vs Stock Duramax
Much of the logic around contests between a moderately hopped-up Cummins and other makes in stock trim, is that typically, all things being equal, you can buy a Dodge enough cheaper that a Ford or GM, that you still have enough $$$ left over to add power mods, and then have a truck with better performance than theirs - and still better reliability as well - makes the comparison more even, in spite of rather large past differences in displacement that favored the other makes... I know *I* sure don't feel guilty blowing off a Ford or GM rig that sold for several thousand more than my Dodge, even including my added Comp...

To put in into perspective, suppose Nissan came out with a diesel truck in the 2500 class that sold for half what our Dodges do - but at somewhat lower performance - BUT, with the addition of about $600 in parts, would run circles around ours, and still have equal or better reliability - would WE consider that "unfair comparison"?
*I* sure wouldn't!
;D ;D

Re:My CTD vs Stock Duramax
Ya my dads truck has a hot juice box on it making it take a bit to warm up. Once its warmed up though it turns on :'( O think personally it would still beat our trucks with an edge comp plugged into a stock otherwise truck.

Just because they aren't rated that high, doesn't mean you can't take em the high.
I've cruised at well over 95mph before for a couple of hours and my tires are still in great shape.

99mph is a common rating.
Big Blue:

I agree with you! I have "B.F. Goodrich Radial All-Terrain
KO's" on my 96' Dodge CTD and I have had them WAY
over 95 MPH, sometimes for longer than a couple of
minutes too!!
I know they run these same tires
at over 120 MPH in the Baja 1000 on the Unlimited Class
I trucks.

--------
John_P

Re:My CTD vs Stock Duramax
I've had my dad's vette up to 130 several times top back with him in it. With him not in it, 150. ;D I've had my truck to 115 on the messed up speedo. I've maxed out my mom's suburban several times (100mph governor). It's fun to bounce on the speed limiter. ;D I've had my dad's 6.5L Chevy to 100 before. I like speed. ;D Before you start yelling at me and telling me I'm irresponsible, let me say this. I was 16/17 at the time when I did this. Now that I'm 18, I don't go much over 95.
