mtx thunderform

Was wondering if any of yall have used an MTX Thunderform underseat box in your rigs? At the moment I have 2 12's, as much as I like them, There arent any boxes out there (that I know of) that are made to go under the seat and I just dont have the time or patience to build a custom one.

I realize the JL Stealthbox is the preferred setup but I really just dont have that kind of money right now.

Heres my questions.........Anyone used this box before? How does it sound? I wont be using 2 MTX 10's, instead Id like to put 2 Alpine Type R's in it instead. This leads me to my next question, the terminals that come on the box, will I be able to run DVC subs with them? Lasty, is there any space for an amp and capicitor in there?

Thanks for any input yall can give me would be great
Thanks
Jeff

Teh Alpine type r's require a deep box. They have like an 8" or so mounting depth. Only need 1.0 cubic foot of air space though.

i used the jl stealthbox with one ten and i built a setup under the rear bench that folds up... the thunderform would be okay, but youll never fit the alpines in it. the terminal inside is a simple pushon, which you could make a y adapter so that you can run dual coils. two wires would come from the pos, one to each pos coil, and two would come from the neg, and go to the two neg on the coils. ill get my pics up as soon as i can shrink them down to a downloadable size... mine came out sweet i think, but i also have been doing this shtuk on the side for years now. you can always sneak a 2farad under one of the seats, as long as you get a good one with a shielded input for power. dont want to look for the map and shock the shtuk out of yourself now would you!

crap, didnt realize that about the Alpines......

what would fit in there well? BigBlue, i know me you have/had the same subs (aw1206t), how huge of a difference do you think it would be going from the 2 audiobahn 12's to MTX 10's

Not that I dont like my Audiobahns, i love them.......just that I hate not having a back seat (or even storage for that matter). I have the plans to build a custom box under the seat but to be honest, work/life is just to busy right now.

I have been looking at Stealthboxs on EBay, however I have the same type of question as with the Thunderform.........where teh heck do you mount the amp and cap????

Thanks for the info. guys

I have the MTX box powered by a JL 500/1 and it sounds good. My amps and XM receiver are behind the rear seat. The seat won't fold up, but will go up high enough to get it out if needed.
My system doesn't distort and will get more than loud enough to make your ears ring.

I bought my truck with the Thunderform box. Shortly after, one of the subs blew up. I've always been a JL Audio fan, so I put two 10W0's in there. They fit without a problem and sound better than the MTX's in my opinion. As far as the amp, I mounted a Rockford under the driver's seat. I've had no problems with durability of the amp under there. In addition, the Rockford amp has metal end-caps to keep stray feet from backseat passengers from knocking something loose.

You'll notice a big difference in sound. Not only quality, but loudness as well.

Sorry Ive neglected my own thread guys, been really busy lately........

Anywho I have been doing a little looking around on the net and have decided to stay away from the Thunderform, just havent heard many good things about it.

I think what I really want is the JL Stealthbox for 2 10's. Does anyone know a place other than stereo shops that sells these (man, they're expensive). Even better, anyone interested in selling one? loaded or not, doesnt matter.

Thanks for the help guys

Well quan, good news and bad news. Good news: I am running the exact setup that you are looking for. Bad news: I'm not selling!!! I love the way my setup sounds. My w3's kick some A. I would never buy anything but a stealth (downfire) box for any truck that I own in the future. That box makes a world of difference, trust me on this one.

Go out and spend a few extra bucks, trust me, you won't be disatisfied. I paid a good deal for my system 4 yrs ago, and my hopes have yet to be let down. I have had NOOOOO problems w/ my system and DON"T regret spending the extra $ for my piece of mind. Hope this helps. Good luck.
