Surely someone knows how to tune for economy on a 12V....

Timing, intake, exhaust. That's all I know. I'd say set the timing around 16-17*, get a scotty 2 intake, and a 4" exhaust.

From looking at your signature, timming is the onlt real improvement that you will see. Some 215 injectors with thin washers help some people as well.

Does advance the engine timing have the same effect as bumping the ignition timing on a Gasser (by moving the torque up the power band. ) ??

timing

Yes katmandu that would be correct on a 12v you will sacrifice a little low end torque with advanced timing but you will like the overall performance better and it will help on mileage. :)

With all the torque these motors put out you will hardly notice the low end loss. I could tell when I did mine, but just barely.

How far is TOO FAR for a truck with the mods my truck has (See Sig) ??

16.5-17* is probably best for most people with 215 pumps!

I'll probably be setting mine around that if I ever get the thing on the truck;)

You may want a better intake such as BHAF, or afe filter set-up. Timing will help. Higher tire pressure (dont wear out the middle of your tires though), tail gate UP, speeds around 55-60mph yeild good mpg, dont use engine to slow down-coast, tune afc for minimal smoke, stay out of the fuel pedal! Powerservice in the white bottle helps as well. No long warm-ups or idle times. If you want to go as extreme as full synthetics, they are claimed to help.

I just went through a thread that said the BHAF will lower power. I will try to find it........

scotty II helped my mileage, also the #10 palte on a 215 pump without gov springs and slid about 2/3's forward with gov arm adjusted and afc tightened down so that she jsut barely puffed. 16* timing and 285/75 16 tires with 3.54s yeilded 18-20 on long trips including fuel stops the average speed over 14 hours of drigning was 64mph 4"pipe with muffler which means i was running 70+mph regularly.. through nevada up and over the passes

I now have no scotty just an AFE, Lenny stage 4 injectors, twins, 16* timing the #10 plate slid back to about 1/2 maybe a hair under, afc tightened up, can push 50 psi no problem at WOT, a drilled Wastegate on the top turbo same tires and gears. 4" pipe with muffler average 17-19 get 17.4 mpg at 70-75mph get 19.2mpg at 65mph and i know i could do better if i wasnt so temped to romp on it occassionally.

No timing so stock 14.5*, the 215 pump with a #10 in stock location, afc tightened and stock turbo with a K&N filter int he box and straight exhaust
18mpg on the highway at 65mph 16mpg at 70-75 mph

my driving style hasnt changed 1 iota
