map and "can connector"?
sorry if this sounds like a stupd question, i am just reassuring myself before i hopefully get to install this new "box" tomm.....[duhhh] it says it hooks into the map and the "can connector"?? it says the can connector is towards the front of the motor. is the map towards the back of the motor on the drivers side? ...i would really appreciate some pix...this is on my '02 ...
|
also, is it really necessary to disconnect the batteries?
|
I have loaded my new smarty up and will hopefully be putting this ts MVP on tomm..
|
I think the can is the one kinda under the vp with a dummy plug in it. The map is under the intake mannifold just behind the stock fuel filter housing. The plugs are different so you cant mess it up.

like 98whitelightnin said, the CAN BUS is near the VP, look at the wiring looms near vp and timing cover on the driver side...the CAN is a triangular shape connector, it's bigger than the map connector

also the map is on the engine block near behind the fuel filter assembly. follow the engine oil dipstick and you'll find it very close

On the 01 02 its a flat 3 prong plug and not triangular its app. 1 1/2" or so wide with 3 big prongs and may have a weather proof plug you need to remove if someone else has not yet
just go ahead and climb all the way up in the engine bay or it will be a pita to even see these plug ins |
thanks guys hopefully I can get free today to put this thing on with my smarty!

On the 02 there are red locking tabs on the map sensor plug that can be somewhat of a pain to get undone, your directions should explain how to undo them properly. Good luck
|
the directions I got with mine are actually very very general haha thats why I posted here

Your MAP should be #8 in the pic, #7 is the IAT sensor. the CAN will hanging behind the IP somewhere. Sometimes it takes a while to find it. |
thanks for the pic.....still wondering about the batteries?
|
I did disconnect the grounds of both batteries when I did something similar. IT takes a few minutes and can keep you from accidentally frying something. Also if you are climbing around on the top of the engine...pull out the dipstick and set it aside. It is easy to break...I know.
|
alright ill unhook 'em.....i guess i should just tape up the factory connectors or something?
