Mach 4s smoke at idle?

I have a slight haze at idle is this normal with 4s? Anyone with 4s have this?

oaborbag 04-21-2008 01:11 AM

I don't have them, but I'd say at idle you should not have any smoke or haze. Not sure what the problem could be

Moules 04-21-2008 08:36 AM

YES. my truck has a slight haze at idle. very very minimal haze.

same for me.

Mine did too, you're good....

IMHO, there is no such thing as a 150 hp injector that doesn't show a little smoke. Whether it be F1's or DDP's!

HOHN 04-21-2008 09:22 AM

Yes. Even the best injectors in this size range will haze a little.

You won't see this under load as much at all-- it's typically just at idle and cruising on a very cold engine.

Is the motor warm? What's the outside temperature? The old trucks smoke at idle when cold or its cold outside. Only a slight haze right? I seen some nasty smokers, I think Arrons of CT performance was the worst that I've seen. Make my old DPP sticks look clean.

I have no haze at all at idle. It puffs a cloud at start-up and is invisible after that.

HOHN 04-21-2008 12:18 PM

JLand--

I bet you'd see haze if you looked for it at night. I was wondering what all these M4 guys were talking about with a "haze" until I looked in my sideview mirror at night once-- I could see the haze in the headlights of the cars following me.

It's not really something visible in daylight with a warm engine. The white haze you get with M4s with a cold winter start isn't what I think we're talking about here. (Then again, you might not have that experience, since Little Rock isn't super cold?).

When I first noticed the haze, I was concerned for my mpg at first. But tons of hand calculations later, I know that my mpg hasn't been negatively affected. Last fillup was 18.x with all short trips and cold starts!

If your seeing a haze when the motor warm and for ambient conditions, there should nothing more than a light haze on moderate throttle. If you have more than that you have electric issues or boost leaks. Of course extreme elevation changes things. I can see a lite haze on cold days here at 3500 ft but I'm running bigger sticks and running big turbos. When the truck is cold and its smokey. Mach 4's should clean-up with the right mods under wot[dummy]

Its a colorless haze in daylight at idle. You can smell it from a distance its like it is slightly "rich" in gasser terms. I was just making sure it is normal for Mach 4s and it sounds like it is. THANKS[coffee]

mach 4's are 150hp? I thought that was mach 5's?

fiveology 04-22-2008 07:18 PM

My 4s do it too, it is normal.

Yes, they are rated 150hp. I think there are dyno tests out there showing gains approaching 175hp, though.

5s are 200hp and 6s are 220, if I remember right.
