J hook install

I've got a J hook from TST being shipped tomorrow to be installed on Sat or Sun. I've dug around here and online and can't find any instructions on the install, just finished pictures of the install. Is there drilling and the like required or is it a strait bolt on. I'm sure there will be some instructions when it arrives but I always like to know what I'm getting into before I grab a wrench.

This is what I'm getting. Oh ya any numbers on how much more boost this might give, I'm only able to get 18psi I guess I should have researched that before I bought it but I've spent more on coffee in a week than this costs, hope it's worth the $25.

Thanks
Bill.

I believe it is a straight bolt on, using one of the rear housing bolts. I know many members on here have used hardware store components for much less than the TST hook, but those pics look really good. I went with a TST Stealth cover, when I could have soldered or just tapped the wire, so I don't hold anyone to the flames for spending money on well engineered components. Good luck with the install, and let us know how it turns out!

Correct, you remove 1 of the bolts from the rear turbo down tube and using the new screw provided with the kit it simply screws into place. I haven't installed it yet, I'm waiting for things to cool down some. Probably tomorrow after work or maybe I'll get anxious and do it tonight. There were no instructions with the J Hook but if you go to TST's website and download the TST power pack instructions you can read all 3 lines on the J Hook install.

I'm hoping for at least a 10 psi upgrade but I might be in the clouds with those numbers. With only 18 psi things are getting pretty hot, not dangerous yet but 1300* with a short WOT run.

Will report my results this weekend.

Yes it is a straight bolt on. Take one bolt out put one bolt in. I can 38psi of boost with comp on 5x5. And cant git above 1200* at WOT.

Well call me the "mentally challenged" one of the bunch. Skipped dinner to install (wife's mad at me now) Fought like heck to get the bolt started, finally got it, took it for a test run and my boost numbers are worse. Login here look at the picture again and guess what, you already know, I INSTALLED IT BACKWARDS

I managed to get it off as to not stretch the spring anymore but it's still too hot to work on now.

Man it's been a bad day all day, nothing worked the way I thought it would. I'd quit for the night but I need the truck to get to work tomorrow

Just sharing and I guess nobody's perfect right

Somewhere in a village far far away they are looking for an idiot, that idiot happens to be me. I don't know why I had such a problem with this simple mod but it took me at least an hour maybe more to install it correctly. I just could not get it to line up correctly. The picture helps but if you can read or remember mirror images your better off.

It's finally installed and is making more boost but still a shy 25 pounds WOT with an EZ, I can't believe installing it wrong for 30 minutes with the spring streatched about 1/4" would make a difference.

The numbers sound low to me, I was hoping for ~30 maybe more is that unrealistic? It's still fueling but the gate is opening (I think) and I can not get past 25lbs. Should I be looking for a boost leak or is that the limit of the J hook (7 PSI increase)

Now there has been alot of debate on the altitude lately as I'm sitting at 6500' could that make a difference?

Thanks again

going to bed now, work is calling too early in the am.

Altitude can make a huge difference. You lose .5 psi atmospheric pressure every 1000 feet above sea level. Translation, air is thinner and turbo cannot compress as much air as at sea level. I had an HY with a J hook on it and I live at about 4500 feet. It would build 30-32 psi. I had an EZ but can't remember what boost was with it, but afore menchined boost was with Comp. You may have stretched the spring. You may have a boost leak. Don't feel bad, that is not an easy install.
Good luck.
