I just tried this on my 96. I can not get lockup to work. When I hit my switch the "wait to start" light comes on in my dash????

Hello, great reading all this,so I thought I'd throw my story in as well.
I Put my TC and overdrive on switches because my speed sensor went south and I did'nt feel like fixing it right away. I've never had any codes come up or had any adverse effects. I dont have any resistors or extra relays,I wired the ground from the sol.'s to the switches and out to Batt. ground. The TC will lock in any gear(never tried reverse) when drive is selected or low or second. I've read how hard this can be on the stock trans and understand completely the risk. With that said,I've been hammering around for about 10k miles and Nothing has giving up yet(knock wood).
I've noticed that if I'm easy and careful I can get pretty close to 26mpg combined avg. (this is calculated by driving a repeated known distance, since I've no ODO). I'm able to keep much more constant speed up long grades compared to when the comput. was controlling the trans. and do enjoy the engine braking effect of coating down with the TC locked. While I will fix the speedo soon enough,I'm never giving control back to the PCM. I'm lovin it way too much.

Most '96s require a computer reflash from the dealer to work right.
Last I heard it was $70.

Also make sure you tapped into the wire that goes to the correct pin number in the instructions.
There are two wires the same color going to the PCM. Only one will work.

TC lock switch

I put my switch up next to my trailer tow button. Its great and I use it all the time. I can place my auto in 2nd and flip the switch and it will stay locked and that really helps on the big hills here. I like it on down grades with the fiver on towing I can take my foot off the fuel petal and the truck will slow down. before the truck would pick up speed going down hills when I took my foot off the fuel petal. I think I used number 51 pin out on the firewall as there are two wires there the same colour orange with tracer.I never let the truck shift locked as this trans has 268000 kl on it and I don`t want to rebuild it yet.I seem to get better mileage using the switch as its all ways locked and on cruse control. Just a great mod ,but it has to be used correctly or you can hurt the tranny. Later Don T

Infidel thanks for the info. I may have got the wrong wire. I thought there was only one wire that color and tapped into a little higher up the wiring harness.

I will check it out in the AM.

I checked and my 96 and it was built in June. The 96's from April back need the re-flash...

"NOTE: Some Rams built between 9-95 to 4-96 have computer programming that does not permit this lockup feature to work as described above."
