Good plan to do the tranny first.........that stock converter will be bending fins and a have a 3500 rpm stall in a couple of seconds of WOT with your proposed set up! ........But only after the lock up clutch is dust in the bottom of your pan!!!

Slightly off topic but in line with something mentioned earlier in this tread. My EGT's never get up to 1150 on a hard pull loaded heavy. It worrys me as if it is not correct I could cook the engine. Did the EV gages come at some point reading too low? And what is a good way to effectively check the accuracy of the gage? All the info is in the signature.

It is hard to get the EV gage above the line where the yellow starts and never goes much above it. I put a new probe in with this engine, the old engine and probe was probably 100 degrees higher, would go up to 1200 or so. This is the commercial engien though with the different cam.

No, the tranny is not quite stock.......it has aftermarket steel drums, an extra clutch disc in each pack and heavy duty planetaries.........The BD X-converter's lock up was barely holding on if I floored it while towing on the highway.......

Got Smoke: Well ill be darned. I know him well. I am supposed to be getting a torque converter from him, and his dad is doing my transmission work whenever he gets the converter. Ill have to ask him about those. Hes about 30 minutes from me. I bet i could get them for $75. Maybe 215's will be next.lol Heck. Knowing him, he would let me try them out, and take them back if i wasnt happy. Hes a good guy.

Haulin: Hmm. Sounds plenty low to me, but i dont know. I think my EGT's are to high, but i believe they are actually that high, and its not the probe or gauge or anything. Id say a different cam does make a difference though.

CTDNUT: yeah, my tranny is unhappy as it is, and before any more power, i need some tranny work for sure.

To my knowledge, the only pump that had 181 dv's stock is the 215 pump which was only available in a 5spd truck..........97 auto has a 180 pump and I am not certain of the dv's - maybe the 167's?

My 181's came out of a 180pump

The 3 number designation is inscribed into the top of the delivery valve, pretty small but its there.

I can confirm that the 160 hp pump on your truck has 131's stock.......too small to feed a decent injector..........
