Injector Upgrade for 24V
 

Looking to step up to some slightly bigger injectors to help in the RV pulling dept. On the City Diesel Inc. site they show 2 different sets of injectors for this "mild" upgrade with quite a variation in price...275 HP for 275.00 or what they call Stage 1 +6O HP.for 499.00..anybody shed some light on what the difference might be...Do u get what u pay for???? Does upgrading to the bigger injectors take more life out the lift pump??? Should i also be looking to upgrade my fuel del.sys? Thanks... ::)

The 275's they list will not get you 275hp. Those injectors are new injectors from Bosch untouched. I believe they will net you about 40 to 45hp or so. The &quot;Stage 1&quot; is an extrude honed injector that has the holes enlarged in order to flow more fuel. I know they honed injectors are usually balanced as far as flow characteristics which is important. The honed ones are usually within 1 to 2% of each other, I am not sure of the exact specs on the Bosch 275's as far as flow rate matching, I believe it is upto 6% varience? If you can afford it I would definatly look at the Stage 1 or 2 injectors, however if you want to keep it simple then get the 275's, you have to decide how much you wanna spend.<br><br>Some poeple might argue that any modification will take life out of the injection pump, however keep an eye on the fuel pressure gauge and feed it healthy fuel and you should be fine.<br><br>As far as fuel system, a fuel pressure gauge would be very helpful if you don't already have it, and maybe a set of higher flow banjo bolts.

I've had the 275's for 4 years now and they are a great injector for towing. 8) They provide a increase in low end power and little to no smoke under a heavy pull. 8) They also keep the EGT's low so you don't have to worry about the temps getting too high when pulling the long grades. :)<br><br>But as everybody usually does they have just gotten too small and I need something bigger. 8) So it's on to a stage 3 or bigger for me.<br><br>DB

I just ordered the stage 3's. Will at BMD said that would be best since I lug that flat bed around 6 days a week in the summer. I love to haul fertilizer and lime. Dont like the D.O.T. :'(

The 275's have a 4% variance, and the difference is not really noticeable except slightly at idle and only if you happen to have two or more injectors at extreme production differentials.<br><br>If you go with the the DD2's you'll probably have to start thinking about what you want to do to your auto trans to allow it to survive. A box like the EZ and 275's may be your best bet. <br><br>GP

I have 275's and a EZ and am pleased witht the performance. I thought about DD1's or 2's but with 2's I was going to need to upgrade my clutch and with 1's I did not see the justification of $250 more for only a 20 hp gain. I am not into hot rodding but my truck has more than enought power to do anything I want and anyone who has drove it has been impressed with the power.

Actually I was present during some testing of pop off pressures on the RV 275's and the stock injectors out of several 24V Rams. It was pretty obvious that the variance in one set was averaging 11% from best to worst on the stock injectors in our trucks and that was quite common. :o That answered my question as to why my stock injectors were giving me a bit of a lumpy idle.<br>My stage threes where within 1% of each other and the idle was/is much smoother. Getting a set of balanced injectors is worth it. I could live with 4% on the RV injectors.<br><br>This is not what I heard or what someone told me...its what I saw... ;D Theres some heresay on here that is starting to grate on my nerve. [eyecrazy] Not on this thread but on the site in general and I am glad that there are some proficient folks out there enlightening myself and others.<br><br>Whoops sorry I digressed. I saw them test 18 injectors [RV 275's] or three random sets and all had the 4% variance. Four sets of ETH and none had over 5,000 miles on them. Two sets of ETC's [do not know what the mileage was on them] I was not doing the pop off, I was there in the room handing the injectors and inhaling the #2 mist. :)<br><br>The biggest thing I remember was everytime a set of stock ETH/ETC injectors from someones truck where tested...they had a large variance in what the pop off pressures were. I did not write down the numbers...I really should've. My bad.<br><br>Would it be safe to assume that the injectors in the 24V are not matched? [eyecrazy]
