Thanks for everyone's help in here ;D. One question, I used antiseize on the threads, I read that in some of the posts. Has anyone found that the screw backs out at all because of this. Do you think that locktight would be better. This should be a perminant fixture right??? I figured that there are only 2.5 to 3 treads in the manifold, anyone have this problem. I used the autometer pyro with a 1/8 pipe thread.

I didn't use locktight or anti-sieze on either of my EGT probes (got a pre/post setup) and the probes haven't back out any.

Nope. Nothing. Just screwed them in. Been in there for almost 2 years.

Steve,

You dont want to use loctite....the thermocouple probes can and do fail and you want to be able to get that thing out of the manifold if you need to. Nickle anti-seize is probably the best thing to use, and it wont cause the probe to work loose. Teflon may work but you dont really need it.

Some people tap a 1/4" hole and use a 1/4" X 1/8" bushing.

I fall into the last catagory. I like useing the 1/4" tap and then the 1/4" to 1/8" bushing. I also use the anti-size. The probes do fail and sometimes just need to be removed to service other parts of the engine. My first probes I installed were hopelessly frozen and it used the anti-size. So for now on the brass bushing always goes in, it seperate the cast from the stainless steel, and allows easy removeal later on. Also I have never had a problem with anything coming loose.

thanks for your advice everyone :D. I was worried about using the 1/4 because of the thichness of the maniford wall and not having enought threads to hold the fitting. Everything is good so far, knock on wood.

Az, you can get the bushings at any plumbing supply shop, forget the Lowes and home depot places though.... Another nifty thing to know is DO NOT use teflon tape in that the stuff will melt away at the temps that the exhaust sees. I have used teflon tape on applications for steam piping and when 245 degree steam hit it it ran like a chicken crossing the road in front of a semi....
