Sliding nozzle VG turbo. Does the actuator still work? Pressure or electrical actuator?
http://www.holset.co.uk/pics-related...uals/HY55V.exe For the repair manual. Use it as a primary in wicked twins? ;) AlpineRAM |
the actuator DOES still work. it's pressure activated. TWINS!!!!! i'm just finishing my first set-up now. hybrid/ht3e. thinking once i get this one figured out, i can slide it in place. not too sure how i can get this thing working though because at rest, it acts like a large housing. to get it to act like a small one, pressure needs to be applied. before i opened it up, i thought i would just be able to hook it up the drive pressure, or something. that won't work though cuz it needs to go the other way. anyway, thanks for the responses. keep the ideas flowing. PLEASE. i can use all the help i can get on this one.
dave ps. alpine, i went to that link, but i have a mac. can't do anything with .exe files. i called holset to see if they could send me a copy, but all they had to say about this turbo was: "i hope you can get your money back". they refused to be of any service.:( |
Can't tell very well from the pics but if you have room you fab an adapter to place
the actuator rod 180* out the exact amount from center of pivot as it is now then elongate the actuator mounting holes enough to permit it to line up with the other side of the pivot adaptor. That should reverse the way it operates assuming the actuator is spring loaded to retract the rod. |
now yer talkin! i'll check that out tonight.

swank: Look there: http://www.bisanz.cc/dodge/HY55V%20ManualR02.pdf
Just extracted it from the .exe- with a linux box :D The idea of reversing the VG actuator assy is nice but a little bit dangerous. I'd prefer it to go to "big housing" in case of troubles. (The turbo itself can be used as an exhaust brake) Usually the ECM would control it but you'd have to do your own controls there. Try at least to get a readout of the speed sensor. (To see when you get hte turbo up to unhealthy speeds) HTH AlpineRAM |
nice alpine!!! that makes for good reading. i see that i need a speed sensor. will turbo shops over there sell parts for these things? holset wouldn't give me the time of day. talked to paul at htt, and HE can't even get parts for the darn thing. anyway, thanks again.

update!!!!!!!!!!!!! TWINS!!!!!!!!!!!!! vgt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! still gotta get it figgered out though(how to control). but now i've got motivation. any more ideas?

Dave... I don't know if I can find a number or email for Weir Cummins.. (Dean Morehead (sp) He is/was running one.. He was running an air tank, with an electric air pump.. and was setting up for running onboard air... He had a conntroller, and had a program written.. I'm sure what it monitored.. boost, shaft speed.. engine load, rpms.. I'm sure there was more..
He also had a dial inside for manual control... Bryan (Can't wait to see NeedMoPower's 1st Gen on the dyno this weekend..) |
cody got me his #. haven't had a chance to call yet though.
|
OK.. good... because I probably would have to call him to get the number...
