HX35 vs HX35W turbo

Is there a performance difference between the HX35 and the HX35W turbos? There are two different turbos what are the advantages?

HX35=non wastegated, HX35W=wastegated version.

Haulin go here for more information on holset turbos than you ever wanted to know!

Not really, the HX35W is a different series with a different wastegate. The Dodge is a HX35 with a wastegate. The commercial versions are HX35W and a completely different design. Trying to find out any performance differences. I have the info from Holset including the repair manuals.

What about all the turbos on dodges that say HX35W on the data plate?

You need to check that holset website.
Click on service literature, it has the HX35 AND HX35W next to each other.
The difference is the Wastegate on the HX35W and there is none on the HX35.

Design looks to be identical, peformance is also identical.
It is PDF format so it has to be downloaded and viewed.

Furthermore....
HX40 is a nonwastegated HX40, the HX40W is the wastegated version, and Holsets HX40V has a variable geometry nozzle type turbine housing.

Ok you got me, I was looking at the completely different exhaust housing type differences. My Dodge turbo only has HX35 on it but it is the stock wastegate. The commercial unit has the HX35W and has a different wastegate and is a 14 cm housing. Would like to use that turbo, but it does not have the elboe.

Incidentally I have down loaded the Holset info a while back. Have them in ring binders.

Bill-You can get an elbow that clamps on the 14 cm housing. You may also be able to swap the turbine housing backplates, but I'm not sure about that.

Thats what I need, where would you find the elbow. I am trying this time to keep the RV275 as close to stock (Peterbuilt 371) as possible. If I can use the turbo, about all that will be different is the exhaust manifold.

I also need one of those pulleys that mount under the alternator pully nut, have to drive a ford vacuum pump from it for the heater. Do not know where to get that either.

All the 12 valve 2nd gen Dodges have an elbow that clamps on the turbine housing. I was under the impression that early 24 valve trucks had the same setup, my boss's old '98.5 had a clamp-on elbow (I was toying with the idea of swapping turbos while he wasn't looking :D ). Anyhow, Cummins or Dodge should be able to get it, or maybe some fellow DTR'r who has converted to an HX-40 would be willing to send you their old one.

Had you thought of something like this to run the HVAC controls?

Bill- The elbow is up for sale on Ebay. I don't know if the price is good. I bought my WH1C from the guy, he shipped it quick.

Part # on the elbow is 3923198.
