HTB2 62/14 results

Well it's been on for a week. However it has been raining a lot so I haven't had a chance to really get on it. So far with the comp on I'm seeing max boost of 42 and egt's of 1250-1300. Egt's cruisin are 600-800. With the scotty 2 it gets annoying in the cab. It is a little laggy on bottom end but it pulls harder and longer than stock. Does have an odd howl when deccelerating though. And if I have the comp on 1 and stomp on it it has a studder between 20 & 30lbs of boost. Anyone experience this shudder? Turbo bark is manageable... Overall I'm pleased with the results. I'm getting a smarty to help with the low end lag since I'm in stop and go traffic everyday. Not sure if it is this turbo or what but my mpg is sitting around 12.. Anyone else with an HTB2 have similar boost results?

yea I can't wait for that smarty..Anyone have any input on what the best comp/smarty combo would be for fuel benefits and then for all out power? Wonder if it would be beneficial to turn my wastegate a little higher..maybe 45 or just leave it as is?

any idea what the studder is? It only does it when the comp is on low settings, 3-5 and it pulls hard straight through so I assume it is in direct correlation with the amount of fuel...

45 is about perfict! I run my smarty on lvl 2 most all the time with comp on 5x4 on hard pulls! normally lvl 1! I think you can run Level 8 and 5x4 for all out spool up (more power made with no smarty or smarty on 4 or lower) and for mileage i run half power and 1x1 , The smarty makes my truck very jerky!

Jerky? Why's that? Correct me if wrong but isn't it better to run the Smarty on even settings when combined with the comp so you don't have too much timing? I heard at high hp a smarty actually takes away when on. But with my setup when I dyno'd it actually made a 60 uncorrected hp difference...

the horse power diffrence is moreso in the higher hp trucks! I normally run all even settings but on the fuel saver ive played around a little! I get better with the comp on, of course i havent really drove it enough like that to see any adverse effects, just playing around with the truck! If i run for true fuel savings i run level 0 and leave comp on 2. I get alot more timing rattle on 1.
The jerkiness is probably mostly bigger sticks, i know Olee said you about couldnt drive gus farmers truck on 8. I know alot of guys around here say the smarty is a little more touchy!

good deal, thanks for the input.. Will post results when Smarty arrives. You know how difficult it is to adjust the external wastegate on the HTB2 or is there an easier way?

I might be making these things up in my head, however; the truck def. seems to idle/knock louder than pre-turbo. Throttle seems to be much touchier in terms of driving slow in 2nd gear across bumpy ground, and it has a weird intermittent noise at low speeds (35mph and down) when letting off the throttle..too hard to describe.. So my question to you guys would be has anyone else had similar results? Or better yet what problems if any would/could a new turbo possibly cause?

he more air flow the more noise! The first place i would check is the down pipe and all turbo tubes, on the Compressor side the adapter tube maybe turned just a little and make your intake tube hit! I would check all the basics! and if you dont find anything, i wouldnt worry about it till it breaks unless it gets bad! Take it from someone who worrys about everything!

That would be me when it comes to this truck. I checked the downpipe but and no leaks, just thought it was odd that the truck sounded diff. sitting at idle.. Oh well no changes in gauge readings, only things diff is mileage is down...
