HT3B or S400?

which turbo would you pick for twins using the stock HX35 and why?

Either a B2( or copy thereof) or a 3B? The S400 style is shorter and easier to plumb into the system. More room to clear the oil filter. As far as performance. The B2 is supposed to have a slight advantage. But I was told by City Diesel that it is only a slight advantage. Maybe enough to go with the S400 at first. Not enough to switch from a 3B. With a 35, the wastegate will be a more important factor. Either an external gate used in conjunction with the stock one, or just an external gate. Without the larger wastegate, as soon as you get to about 50psi boost your drive pressure will start to increase at a much faster rate than your boost pressure. I currently have this problem on my truck. But the solution is on the table waiting to be installed.

whats the solution?

I bought a 38mm Tial from Olee Poole a while back. I am sure that will help with the drive pressure. If it works as good as people claim I will switch to a slightly larger non-wastegated top turbo and see if that will clean the smoke up a little better.

you're going to go with a larger housing, ron???? i thought the advantage of an external gate was that you could run a smaller housing for better spool (=less smoke) and still have the flow of a big housing. please explain.

Not a larger housing, a higher output turbo. I have a 14cm housing on my Dodgezilla. I have no idea what size the housing on the WSB is. When I asked how many cfm it put out at 30psi they told me I was asking alot of questions. So I am sure they would not tell me what the exhaust housing size is. I'll run it on the dyno and watch all three boost gauges. If it doesn't make a difference, I'll have my answer.

oops! i guess i should read little closer, huh? good luck with all that stuff. is the other turbo going to slip right in there?

RonA 07-04-2005 12:03 PM

With a little modification it will fit.

LanceD 07-04-2005 04:31 PM

three boost gauges? what are they all reading?

RonA 07-04-2005 04:59 PM

Boost at intake, drive pressure, and boost from bottom (primary) turbo.
