Question how in the world.....

alright, i dont get it. i see these trucks, mostly 12v's that jsut settin in the parkin lot can romp it and blow black smoke out the exhaust. i know a guy round here with a 96 ford 250 that can get on it and puff quite a bit of smoke at a stand still. how in the world are they doing that? i cant get nothing near what crimedog for example, (or somebody) can do.. is it jsut because of the 12 v instead of the 24 v? now i can get on it movin and do as much as the next bombed ctd. . . . but not from a standstill???

Are those trucks who blow smoke at a standstill autos? I bet they are. Auto trannies can actually build up boost and not be in gear, as standards can not.

Mine will not build boost in neutral, nor will it in gear almost until the tires break loose. I have seen some diesels smoke at idle, they must have showerheads for injectors.

I've seen mine put out black smoke twice.

Once on the dyno and once at 10,000 feet.

Just a puff each time.

Now winter is another story,
it'll pour out the white smoke for a good 30 seconds when I start it at 20 degrees or colder.

Might be revising my plans after all the VP44 failures lately.

Might go with the MAD ECM and some semi mild injectors.

Don't know about the 24 valve cylon controlled engines but my 12 valve mechanical injected CTD will clear all of the bugs away for 20 yards when stomping the throttle from idle to gov. limit.

Even my ddIIIs with a comp won't smoke like a twelve valve at low boost because 24 vavles don't add much fuel until boost is made, but with a catcher it'll act just like a twelve valve

If i blip my throtle,

or get on it all of a sudden, or use a gear in too low an RPM ill get some serious smoke, to get it at idle i just cannot, ive tried, i can get killer smoke taking off in third or fourth gear, and a simple explanation for this i think,

P7100 pump!!

Hey guys, the 12v tend to smoke a bunch more....older engines, like the oil...whatever, but they do. W/ the 24 v you're only true hope at a lot o smoke is a box. The comp makes all the white lexus and bmw and well pretty much anything get way back or over.

By the way, don't wanna hijack the thread, but how do you build boost (w/ an auto) ?
