How much timing?

I have a 96 five speed 4.10 gears. How much timing can I bump and keep everything reliable?

I am thinking 15* for basically stock engines is a safe number.

Write that down and someone else will be along shortly to confirm or deny that value.

It will be getting a new head gasket and a set of arp head studs in the process

UPS132:

In my opinion, you can go to 16 degrees without any problem. I did it on my 1996 Dodge CTD and ran it that way with stock headbolts and gasket for about two years.
