hmm possible engine swap

ok so i have found a totaled 05ish dodge cummins that has been totaled frame cracked etc but the drive train is still perfect. its only got like 40k miles on it so i was thinking how hard would it be to drop that common rail into my vp$$ truck. i was thinking about a p pump conversion but i found this and it has peaked my interest. not to mention i could probably get the truck dirt cheap or free. but if its a total pita then i will just p pump and maybe drop the common rail into a deuce and a half or something haha.

so having a complete donor truck how hard would it be to do this?

It can be done, but there are a few issues. Mostly your gauges on your dash. You going to have to get a common rail manual ecm. Figureout some way to connect the newer wiring harness into the older truck. Some of the sensors are the same a few aren't. There are wiring harness/trans controller/ecm both for the engine/transmission. Might have to splice into the crank positioner for the tach. I thought about doing that swap myself, a P pump is easier and works well. Buy that CR engine cheap, part it out or sell it for more money. It should more than pay for the P pump parts.

I believe Painless wiring makes a harness, to make the swap work, I believe it runs in the 800$-1000$ range,

I'd think if you have the complete truck you could swap harneses and dash/inst cluster, thought I read a post a long time ago of someone who put a 3rd gen interior in a 2nd gen truck

I think that some of the new engines the throttle is done by a wire instead of a throttle cable. I think that the 03 engine still use the APPS module, but a different sensor connector.

More work than the typical 24v P pump conversion.
