High EGT's

Why is it that on a 4-5 second WOT pull I see egts up of 1400. It will it 47-48psi. The smoke clears by 2200rpm. I thought that to have egts like that you would need to have too much fuel.Any suggestions.

200 hp sticks....looks like not enough air to me

pickupman96 04-19-2009 06:00 PM

Thats what I am thinking. They were high with my 150's also so I think I will try a new intake or a intake manifold and see what it does

oaborbag 04-19-2009 07:08 PM

at full throttle pulls I'm seeing close to your egt's but I'm using a 64/71/14 turbo. I'm not sure if an intake will help you too much, but you never know.

an intake and intake manifold will not drop it that much it will still be too hot.. the injectors your running are too big you dont need that big of an injector to get em to light 90s can even light a 64

My '01 would see 15-1600* on WOT with 150's and a 64/13/71 with the Juice/Att.

1400 is not hot for a WOT blast. You shouldn't get concerned till your over 1600 for more than a few seconds.

Sustained towing EGT is a different story. 0 to 130 MPH WOT runs are a different story as well.

Too true. The intake side isn't your problem. Twins would fix it. Other than that, the stix are too big.

here's another question about EGT's do you think 1100 sustained while towing is too much?

BigErksG2 04-20-2009 08:55 AM

1100 isnt a big deal sustained. 1200 is where I let off when towing. cummins says 1250 or something.

ncdieselguy828 04-20-2009 10:47 AM

Thats what I was thinking. I run between 1100 & 1150 at 65 to 70 mph in OD when pulling my camper. Just wanting another opinon:cool:

You could run methanol/water spray to cut some the egt's. Start with higher intial boost pressure. I drop 200 deg's running a single 325ml nozzle and just windshield fluid. A biggie turbo would help as or go for the big bad twins. With my current stick the highest egt's I have are around 1200 deg's without spray and around 1000 deg's on full spray.

DodgenIt 04-20-2009 11:26 PM

This is a little begger of a mod but you could always throw an after market intercooler in. Thats sure to drop those egt's and keep em down for good with less mess.

Mike Holmen 04-21-2009 08:29 AM

I have an aftermarket intercooler, its hardly drop the egt's at all. A cam, better sticks and/or bigger turbo (twins) is the best way to drop egt's. A better IC will just flow better at higher flows and wont have as much dP drop across it. The methanol/water spray works are well but only work when there is fluid in the tank.[laugh]

I think its time to shop for a s475 or s480 to put under the 64. That should keep thing nice and cool and leave more room for the purposed p-pump swap in the future.
