Help with fuel pressure
I was wondering if any of you guys know of any way i can increase my fuel pressure i have a 2001 bone stock 2500 cummins and im concerned for the stock vp44 that on it the truck has around 267xxx on it. And i dotn have the money to replace the injection pump and with me leaving soon to go to basic i dont want my mom to half to worry about fixing if it goes out. So if anyone knows of how to boost my fuel pressure that would be great i read into the holley blues because those are.more in my price range id prefer to stay out of 200 and more im still going to school and working at the same time anything will help and is greatly appreciated.
Actually you do not need to boost fuel pressure- you need to monitor it.
Do not drive the truck with insufficient fuel pressure, maybe use a lubricity additive in the fuel and let sleeping dogs lie.
There are many aftermarket pumps, and a lot of those target the high performance crowd who will have tripled the engine output, and therefore have a little higher demand on their fuel supply.
The stock pump is a little unreliable, and is not monitored. So after a long time running without sufficient fuel pressure the VP44 is dead. If you stay stock install a fuel pressure gauge or an "idiot light" (an oil pressure switch 8 psi in the fuel filter housing test port, a red bulb and some wires from an ignition on power source).

Yep, just what Alpine said. Anything over about 18psi and you are placing undue pressure on the fuel filter housing and it will eventually begin to leak around the gaskets.
Monitor the fuel psi keeping it about 8psi or greater and you'll keep the injector pump happy. I have both a fuel psi gauge and a 4psi red light wired to a pressure switch. The 4psi switch was all I could find at the time.
