he341cw/hy35
Hi,I just thought Id share my turbo experiences with anyone who's interested.
I have played around with the hx35 on my truck and tried different setups including 12,14,16,18.5 turbine housings and the 56,58mm inducer compressors. The best hx setup for performamce was the 58mm compressor and 14wg housing. This still left more turbo lag than I wanted while having the 5spd. I ended up putting the stock hx 35 setup back on.I then figured mabye an hy35 might be a good option however the compressor is too small at 54mm (I think). So I found an he341cw core (58mm inducer) and simply put an hy35 turbine housing on it.This allowed me to put the turbo on without modifying the exhaust at all.I only had to make up a different pipe/hose setup from the compressor outlet to the intercooler inlet. The turbo works very well.EGT's are only up 100 deg approx and it works better on the top end as well as the bottom end when compared to the stock hx35.You could do the same with the he351cw but I perfered the smaller 341 compressor for spoolup.I'm not sure if anyone has done this before or not but It is definitely a great setup for manual trans trucks that want more torque down low or to help clean up the smoke when changing gears. If I had an auto trans I would have likey went with an 12-14cm hx35 and 58mm compressor.
