Gear splitting

I ordered the aux tranny from US gear, to be installed sometime next week. I have 4.10s and want to drop the rpms at highway speeds. now running 2600 when just shy of 80 mph.

Will update and post some pics. once complete.

RPM's

Sweet! You will really like it.

My GearVendors dropped the RPM's from 2,000 at 70MPH to 1,500 and added about 2 to 3 MPG.

To be honest I do not know, to me it does not make that much of a diference, I am all stock now and do not haul or tow anything. Eventualy I may perk it up a bit but nothing radical.

Here is the link to their site, maybe it can answer your questions:

Hope it helps,

I scrolled down the main page to where it's talking about how the dual range is a real work horse and it said it's rated up to 35K lbs and 2000 lb.ft.

And the Dual Range Is a Real Work Horse
From the very beginning, the Dual Range was designed for towing extremely heavy loads. With a GVCW rating of 35,000 lbs and a torque capacity of 2000 ft lbs, the Dual Range has the strongest guts in the industry. It was specifically designed to use in either 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive, forward or reverse, both uphill or downhill compression braking, and at any speed. There simply is no limit to how and when to use the Dual Range. Again, no other auxiliary transmission manufacturer can make that claim.

Unless it changed from when I was looking at them a few months ago (spoke with their tech rep), it will NOT work while in 4WD as it only connects to the rear diff. -- a switch will turn it off once you shift into 4WD. Also, there isn't enough pressure for it to work in reverse, 1st, or 2nd gear on the manuals ("2nd over" may work with a lot of practice). As BigBlue stated, it is a work horse -- Banks used (4?) of them when setting the land speed record in a Dakota truck with a CTD engine (with only a few modifications...).

The only question I forgot to ask is if it will work with an exhaust brake -- I've read somewhere that there is a special setup needed so one system will turn the other off. After dropping $7,000 into my truck so far this year (IP, LP, tranny, clutch, etc.), I had to defer purchasing the overdrive unit until next year.

Actualy "it is specificaly designed to use in either 2WD or 4WD, forward or reverse.." and it will work with an exhaust brake.

It is installed between the regular tranny and the transfer case.

I think you may be talking about a different unit!

I really looked hard at the US Gear, and it bolts between the tranny and rear end, or for a 4wd, between the tranny and tansfer case. It allow the use of 4wd, exhaust brakes, in all gears, anything.

The only reason I didn't buy one, was lack of funds, and lack of time. If I had either right now, I would have a 10 speed

Member turbo thom has had one for a few years, and he is a dealer for them. He talked to me an awful lot about the product

You ask how much torque they will take? Well Kurt, at one time I was at 1026 lbs of torque and never had a problem with it. It will take every bit as much as the tranny will. No problem there.

Well, a minor setback: Tomorrow will be three weeks that I actualy placed the order and about 2 that they had it in the shop, but they still can not give me an install date. I told them to... well yesterday I took possetion of the unit and associated "stuff" and made arrangements with my dealer's service dept, for the install on Monday. They were more than happy to do the install, this way I have sort of a double "warranty"
Should get the truck back Tuesday or Wed. just in time to put in a few test miles before the Tacoma trip.
Will let you know...

Finaly its done. Boy it sure took long enough. Took the truck in Monday and just got it back. Its not that the work takes that long but they also got bussy, and since that do not do driveshaft work I had to thake the shafts for rework to a diferent place. Anyway it is ready. Can not tell muck about performance yet, just drove home the 4 miles from the dealer. Tomorrow I am going to Pa. to pick up my daughter, 368 mile round trip, I'll post the results.
