fuel pump dilemma
 

Ok, I am looking at replacing my stock carter LP.

I am looking a two options, I am on a budget as well.

1, the Fass DDRP with remount kit. looking about 350 ish

I would also buy some an fittings to replace the factory banjo bolts.


2, the fass adjustable LP

about 436ish.

Yea so this is where I am at, going for ease of installation, price, and fixing low fuel PSI.

What do you guys think?

Both are obviously better than the OEM lift pump so as long as you get rid of the banjo fittings, whichever one you choose is going to be up to what kind of hp you plan on adding down the road. :thumbsup:

yea I am going to do the big line on no matter what I put in.

Not really going to do much more for mods either, I just do not want to replace the VP44 again.

Then take the money you save and get some gauges.

yea, I got a glowshift fuel pressure guage, but I cant get it to work. its really EDIT me off.

Glowshift stuff is , well, drop the f and you have it.....

I understand people buy GS gauges because they cost much less and money is always a variable, but after all the recognized problems people have with them.....I'm not sure why anyone would buy them. Thats not to say all GS gauges dont work either but their level of reliability is less than desirable.

I recommend the FASS Adjustable Fuel Pump 95GPH Dodge Cummins 5.9L 1998.5-2004. I just installed one and it was fairly easy and already adjusted. Mine provides 19 to 20 psi at the fuel filter.

Sorry, I got lost on the Glowshift and forgot to mention I run the FASS 95GPH and it has been reliable and a constant 18 psi....

Did you have to pull the bed to install the tank hose?


Yes I have heard the glow shift issues before I bought it. After I bought I found a isspro in the same price range, that is what I should have done.
I just want the dam think to work, I am sure its a wiring issue.

As for pulling the bed, I didn't want to deal with my canopy, tool boxes and et ctera so I went in from underneath. The only trouble I had was figuring out the tabs on the power supply for the fuel sender, other than that i just lowered the tank, unhooked the fuel lines and tipped it out.

Advice: Use a floor jack and a 2-3 foot piece of 2X12...made it a lot easier in and out.
My gauge said empty, there was probably 5 gallons of fuel in there and the inside of my tank was spotless, which surprised me....

I ordered the pump yesterday! I really do not want to pull the tank or the bed.
Looks like tank will be the way to go.


How did you guys hook up to the boost referencing port?

What do you mean? Are you asking where to hook up your boost gauge?

The Boost Compensation Port also gives the pump added/more consistent fuel pressure based on boost referencing from the turbo keeping fuel pressure in line with the needs of the diesel engine.

Is it built in to the oump via wiring or do I have to hook up another hose?

I have yet to read about anyone installing that particular pump so maybe asking FASS is your best route..... Curious though as to why you chose that particular FASS pump? :thumbsup:
