Do you read the 4 mpg from the overhead console?

Any more smoke? Codes? Low on power?

I'd start by checking the air filter, then the charge air system (boost leaks) and checking for codes.

yeah its saying it on the overhead when the overhead is actually reading other than saying occ I believe an it smokes a little white occasionally when I get on it.
granted its not being driven daily anymore.
was getting a code for 3 to 4 shift solenoid
until I took the smarty programmer off

OK, the overhead is not really reliable if i has bus problems.. as it says by showing OCC.

Still, I'd start with the air filter, if it is plugged it can lead to high fuel consumption. Also remove the hose from the air filter to the turbo and check for debris, if the turbo spins freely and does not rub .

The solenoid code being cured by removing the smarty is really strange...

well awhile back my brakes went out while driving an I had to throw it in 1st at 25mpg to slow the impact of a wreck.

OK, basically it looks like injection pump time to me.. Still I'd go over the bluechip diesel VP44 diagnostics to be sure that you don't throw away a lot of money.
