I have a 2000 diesel that i am changing the send unit in. the old assembly had no lift pump in it, but the new one does. will this present any problems with restrictions?

 

The in tank lift pumps are not known for holding good, reliable fuel pressure. They also are not extremely reliable. If one goes bad, it is a lot more work to replace it. I talked to some people with a 3rd gen a coup;e of years ago that just had their 3rd in tank pump go out. Had to be towed to a shop. $7-$800 to fix it.

If your original problem was fuel level accuracy, you can replace the float assembly. If you have to replace the whole cannister, do a search on here. Guys have removed the in tank pump and run external pumps.
