fly wheel bolts
fly wheel bolts
I'm going to pick up my DD clutch this weekend and will be installing it this weekend. I was wandering if I should put new flywheel bolts in or not? The mechanic at the dealer looked at me like I was stupid and said "why would you want to replace them?"
Thanks

Why. Why,- Just why would you risk it and use old ones???? I just wish and I say this gently if you are unsure of the topic at hand mabe hold back from advise that can kill people....Ever have a flywheel come off????????Thats why in most aplications it is the common law to ALWAYS replace fasners (bolts and nuts) when in doubt-throw it out!!!

wow if that big cummins flywheel came off at 3000 rpm... -shudder-... that'd do some damage.
I've seen someone killed at a drag strip when the clutch let go, it was a terrible thing. The pressure plate flew out into the crowd and sawed right through a guy.
I say again, it's just common sense.

What is the reason for the new bolts? Do they need to be longer or something?

They can only stretch so many times and still be sound.
Use new bolts.
While many bolts should be replaced it is not necessary to replace every bolt you remove. Bolts were designed to be used over and over. It is only in special high torque high load applications that bolts and nuts need to be replaced. That is why it is good to buy and read the service manual.

so now I have to wait until monday
