Exhaust Manifold Bolts

we have a 1998.5 2500 that has a severe crack in the manifold. we have a new 3 piece manifold coming. But how can you get the bolts out of the head to take the exhaust manifold off. they seem REALLY tight. do you just pour WD-40 all over it or what. we dont want to break the bolts off in the head then we got a real mess. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
Cody

I have done a bunch of ATS manifolds. Never had a problem with the stock bolts breaking. With all the expansion and contraction I have been able to take some of the bolts out by hand.

A wobbly on a 13 mm (reaclling from memory) and an extension should do the trick.

every time i worked on older engines where manifold were rusted so bad you would be scared to try and turn the bolts or nuts i would run the hell out of it an get its as hot as it will go and the take them out. i never snaped a hot one but ive broke lots of cold ones. But when i did my ats i had other parts of the thruck so i just sprayed them all with good penetrating oil the day be for and couple times be for i started and they all came right out. just a PITA to get some of them. Good Luck

No problems on mine, thought a couple would break with all the force i was applying but stayed together.

I've replaced well over a dozen Cummins manifolds with ATS, never had one bolt break.

The bolts have a type of anti-sieze coating from the factory.
If you are really worried get some PB blaster from the hardware store.
