engine miss - copied from 24v forum

Most of you are probably celebrating the holiday I hope it is safe and fun for you and your families.
My truck has gotten my holiday
I've posted this problem before. Have never figured out the problem. Looked through the search and found a lot of trucks with similar problems but haven't seen the fix. My truck has had what I had called a surging around 45mph. Of course checked all the grounds, had the tranny checked out and Dodge service did not have a clue. Well since it started this I have changed the Apps/TSP, IAT, Map and Cam sensors. I've changed out the injectors, injection pump. lift pump, put bigger fuel lines, disconnected my EZ comp and reprogrammed with Smarty. The miss is there all the time but more pronounced with the upgrade equipment. It has run with this aggravating miss, Yesterday after driving about 10 miles, after warming up, the truck would barely Idle. It ran like it had a racing cam. Today I put a small section of clear hose just before the injector pump to see if I was sucking up air somewhere in my fuel line. No air bubbles, so no leaks. If I let the truck cool down for an hour and start it up, it idles fine, revving it up slowly to 2000 rpms, no miss. Let the truck run and warm up. Then slowly rev up to 2000 rpms the truck starts to miss at about 1400 rpms, then levels out from 1600 rpms to 2000 rpms. As I bring the engine back to idle slowly it sputters the whole way back to 850 rpms. If I take it out on the road and really warm things up it will hardly idle. I have not changed out the crankshaft sensor (have one at home, guess i might as well change it out today) As I stated it has done this to a certain extent with stock and after market equipment.
(Edit/update)
I had to put the Smarty on fuel saver for the truck to idle after warming up. I'll leave it like that until I can figure out the miss. No codes. Any suggestions on the miss.

Thanks,
Gene007

I have had the same problem, but the miss is only at idle after she warms up, through the gears it runs hard but while idling down it starts to miss, taking it to a diesel shop tomarrow, ill let you know what i figure out. it does seem there a many people with this problem and ot many answers. The weird thing is that it started doing it about a month ago, then suddenly came out of it one day for a few weeeks and now this weekend it started missing again. I have a new lift pump with bigger lines and am running around 15-16 psi fuel pressure so there is definatly no lack of fuel.

Does the engine miss occur more when warm? Take out the smarty programer and see what happens. The smarty does stuff, and that might be part of your problem. I run the mild catcher, with less injector duration and torque management than that tune (both on #3 setting). It helps to smooth out the cruise surging issue.

I had a few sets of bad injectors nozzles that did the engine miss/loping thingy, more so when the engine is hot.
