EDGE EZ
Re:EDGE EZ
Bkay, sounds like a legitamate sales deal, there is no requirement to sell at full retail. Resellers buy at wholesale or at net price for buying bulk. The manufacturer sets a suggested retail but no retailer is forced to sell at that price, the lower he sets his price the less profit he sees but maybe buy beating other resellers price he makes his profit through volume.

If all the resellers agree to sell at full retail that is called price fixing and is illegal..................Pete
Re:EDGE EZ
A competent technician using proper hardware/software can see the history of fueling/timing anomolies stored in the ECM even with an EZ.
Chrysler has also told techs to start looking at MAP sensor plugs to see if they have been disturbed.
(If there's road dust over the whole engine, and the MAP sensor plug is clean...... :
)

Ed
I am my own warranty station.

Re:EDGE EZ
My Edge EZ ia a factory refurb. I had no problem buying it. I talked to Edge personally and asked them about their refurbs before considering one. They assured me that they would stand behind it unconditionally. They come with a one year warranty instead of two, but mine was only $400 to my door in a brand new package just like a new one. It even had a 90 day satisfaction guarantee from the vendor.

I've been in the computer industry for a long time and know how frequently items are refurbed for no reason. I was a PC support engineer for one of the top 3 PC manufacturers in the world and got to see a lot of failure rate info industry wide. Over 80% of the PCs that come back have no actual hardware failure. They come back for numerous reasons including simple customer satisfaction.

When they do come back, the manufacturer goes through them with a fine toothed comb. They don't ever want to see this machine again, so the quality control is actually better on a warrantied refurb than a new machine. They don't want you to know that though. Yes, you can get a bad refurb, buy in the PC industry, the failure rate on refurbs is significantly lower than on new equipment.

I would suspect that this is true of a lot of electronic equipment.

"(If there's road dust over the whole engine, and the MAP sensor plug is clean...... )"

I fully support the notion of taking FULL responsibility for the addition of power add-ons - but I'd sure like to see the look on a warranty arbitrators face, when the ONLY reason a dealer can give for refusing a warranty claim is. "well, gee, his sensor plug was too clean to suit us..."

Re:EDGE EZ
Gary,

No kidding! If DC tried to void my engine waranty without better proof than fueling anomilies and a clean MAP Sensor plug, I'd have them in court in a heartbeat. I can just see them trying to explain to a judge or arbitrator that only engines with dirty MAP connectors are warrantiable.

According to a technician at my local dealer, any stored fueling history can be wiped out by resetting the ECM. This info is stored in volatile memory, similar to RAM if you will. Loss of power can be enough to erase this memory.

The ECM does have some power capacitance aside from the engine batteries, so the tech told me to disconnect the batteries for 30 minutes, and also to turn the ignition all the way to start for 30 seconds while the batteries are disconnected. This should reset all writeable memory, including error codes in the ECM.

If this isn't correct, please let me know. The tech that told me this is pretty sharp, so I believed him. But I'd love to know for sure.
