Edge Comp on Stock 02 HO?

Finally time to buy a box! I've been looking at the edge boxes and like the looks of the comp, but have a few questions. Is anyone using the comp with the wire hooked up and the stock clutch on a 2002 HO? If I get the comp box instead of the EZ, how long can I make the clutch last? I don't really want to get into the tranny yet. I will be towing about a 8000lb boat and want the truck to get up and go on the highway like it did with the smaller boat I had last year. I've seen on some sites that the ETH can expect an increase of up to 90hp with the comp is that about right?

Any help or suggestions for other combos would be appreciated.

With comp on 5X5 and wire hooked up, you should get about 120hp increas and about 350lb.ft. torque increase. I ran the Comp on my stock auto and ended up slipping the TC on 3x3 with wire. You could leave the wire unhooked and get 65hp and like 150lb.ft. of torque and be fine towing. Then when you get a new clutch, you can hook up the wire and fully benefit the extra power of the comp. If you absolutely MUST hook up the wire (and it is awfully tempting ;)), as long as you don't run it above level 2 while towing, you should be fine.

it depends on axle ratio you have. Mine is 4.10 so i have hauled 10000 lb on a gooseneck on stage 5x5 and the clutch held fine. EGTs were a little high. I have sliped the clutch though when i was playing and tried to spin in forth gear. Nevertheless if you want an ez go ahead and buy the comp so if you ever want to upgrade all you have to do is connect the wire. Wes

You will get 80 to 90 hp from the comp and wire hooked up. The ETH's dont respond to the boxes as well as the ETC's. The clutch wont hold up very long with the comp on the higher settings but should be ok on level 3 or less. I would c go with the comp because down the road you'll get bit by the power bug even more and if you ever have to change the clutch you'll then be able to use all the power to play with and be able to control smoke if you ever go to bigger injectors too.
John

;D I put the comp on order last night, thanks to all the replies. I plan on hooking up the wire and seeing what happens. I saw on the edge website that the with the comp you can expect roughly a 90hp and 300lb maximum increase. Wouldn't that be similar to an EZ and 275 injectors, which it seems most people think is okay for a stock clutch? I would like to see 100,000 on the clutch before I do any mods to it. I have almost 25000 now and do about 100 miles a day to work mostly on the highway. Am I wrong in thinking that I can baby the clutch by keeping the rpm's up?

Thanks again for the replies, this site has been a big help.
